Man arrested for abusing girlfriend’s 1-year-old son

Police in Iwanuma, Miyagi Prefecture, have arrested a 26-year-old man on suspicion of abusing the one-year-old son of his girlfriend.

According to police, Ki Kikuchi, a company employee, kicked the boy in the back of the head between 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. at their apartment on June 6, Fuji TV reported. The boy’s mother, who was out at the time, noticed that her son had lost consciousness the next morning and took him to hospital

Doctors said the boy had suffered an acute subdural hematoma. The hospital contacted child welfare authorities about a case of possible child abuse. Police said Kikuchi, who was arrested on Friday, has admitted to the charge.

The child remains in a serious condition, police said.

Let me guess.....the baby was doing what babies do...CRY, the baby wouldn't stop so you kicked the baby.

(I've read it enough times here to know the reason. Its always the same!)

What an obscenity that illuminates and amplifies the dearth of child and family support here.

Another moron that should be put down as soon as possible.

Subdural hematoma in a toddler’s brain can be extremely serious. There could potentially be paralysis or even a long-term coma in the offing. Regardless of the prognosis, this is a horrible outcome for an innocent child just coming into the world.

The fact that these articles are popping up almost everyday as of late is terrifying. What must go through these people’s heads to even think of doing such a thing is beyond me.

I’m also usually not a huge fan of blaming the mother in these sorts of circumstances as these Kyodo News articles are always useless at reporting the finer details.. however, to leave your child in the care of someone you probably have dated for less than a year? It seems very irresponsible.

26 with the emotional maturity of a jhs boy. There are a lot of naive, desperate and foolish women out there too.

"arrested a 26-year-old man on suspicion of abusing the one-year"

Good, I hope charges will be made soon, I hope the charges are something like Assault and battery, grievous bodily harm, or even attempted murder. I just dont want it to be murder charge, ( if you know what I mean) does this moron know what hes done? this child is is very poorly, I just hope the cops have words with him in the cells. I just hope the child makes a full recovery.

Oxycodin

better to ask why so common in Japan

Is it more common in Japan than elsewhere? Do you have references to back that up?

How can people do that?!

not the first time I seen a story similar to this

How can people do that?!

Alas, this situation happens regularly. The guy is only interested in the mother and not in the kid, to which he has no biological connection. The mother thinks she can just replace one guy with another.... wrong assumptions all around.

Kick a defenseless one-year-old child in the head? What a lousy POS this guy is! Just lock him up and throw away the key. Prayers for the young child.

What a lousy POS this guy is! A total jerk.

Poor little boy, hopefully he will make a full recovery. Let’s also hope the police investigate the matter properly.

Acute subdural hematoma is a very serious condition that can lead to death or permanent neurological problems, on the other hand small children are fortunately extremely resilient and many times recover completely from very serious conditions, I hope this is one of those cases and the boy can make a full recovery soon.

I hope the infant recovers, without permanent damage.

As hard as I try, I cannot understand a person who does such a thing to a baby.

In the meantime, the article is pretty clear @Mark 8:53am, unless your just being “the Devil’s advocate’?:…

- “…Ki Kikuchi kicked the boy in the ‘back of the head’ tween 10:30-11am Jun 6,… the mo, out at the time, noticed her son ‘had lost consciousness the next morn and took him to hosp. Kikuchi, arrested on Fri [Jun 12?], has admitted to [it].-

So, little to speculate and ‘rush to judge to mother’.

There is a significant amount of hair on the back of the head, (even a 1yr old) so maybe bruising wasn’t evident on the outside from “internal cranial bruising. He possibly couldn’t tell her about it before bedtime plus, it’s advisable not to go to sleep for a time after a significant, undiagnosed and untreated head trauma.

Also wishing for a healthy recovery and hopefully, the child can convey more details.

Mothers of little toddlers shouldnt have "boyfriends" to begin with.

How awful circumstances might be to make people break up within 1 year (or earlier) the child's birth, depriving the kid of all the parental love he/she deserves. Perfect recipe for a resentful, inconsiderate, sad human being we have to deal with on a daily basis.

Another one?

9 ( +9 / -0 )

No one knows what the details are, was it an accident? or did he drop the child? or did the mother had an accident and accused him to avoid prosecution?

We just don't know!!!?

Wish the child full recovery, good luck.

He kicked a baby?

Mom took him to the doctor nearly 24 hours later. Did she not notice a bruise? Would this injury not leave an obvious mark?

"Their apartment". Lovely, a year old and mom's already moved a new guy in. New boyfriend/girlfriend is practically the middle square of Abused Child Bingo.

Lock him up!

A uncontrollable monster.

“Doctors said the boy had suffered an acute subdural hematoma.” -

This is an injury to the head and brain, extremely common in both boxing and kickboxing.

There is only one solution...
