Man arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting woman in bicycle parking area

Police in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture, have arrested a 35-year-old man on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 22-year-old woman in the bicycle parking area of an apartment building.

According to police, Yuya Sugito, a company employee, allegedly groped the woman’s breasts at around 9:30 p.m. on July 24, Kyodo News reported. The woman told police that as she was parking her bike, a man came up behind her and grabbed her upper body.

Police said Sugito, who was arrested Tuesday after an analysis of street surveillance camera footage, has denied the allegation and quoted him as saying he has no recollection of the incident.

Police also said that on the same day, in a nearby area, several women in their 20s and 30s reported being suddenly groped from behind and that they are questioning Sugito about his involvement in those incidents.

What of witnesses being present?

DNA samples of his skin or hair?

Maybe the police don’t want to do the legwork and want a confession?

Reads like the perp was on the lose in that area.

Some people take it to the extreme though, where they think the mere existence of men within their general vicinity is a threat, regardless of the presence of any threat or an indication of one.

Extreme: Woman is walking on the street in Ginza one afternoon, and sees a man walking towards her - OMG! I'M IN DANGER! runs away

Not extreme: Woman is walking alone on the street in a quiet area at night and sees that there is a man behind her. She keeps her eye on him and notes her surroundings to check where there might be a safe place in case she has to escape.

Extreme: Woman is on a date with a man. The man asks if she would like to come back to his place for coffee, and she... OMG I'M IN DANGER! runs away

Not extreme: Woman is on a date with a man. The man asks if she would like to come back to his place for coffee, but she decides it's too early and that she doesn't know him well enough yet to be alone with him in a place where she has no way out if something happens. She declines, but accepts a second date.

I highly doubt there are many women who have what could be termed as "an extreme" reaction. I feel like this "extreme" reaction is a thing men only imagined happens.

It sounds like he needs a good beating to help him get his memory back.

Now, despite him being an obvious freak, had he asked each of them did they want to go have a beer, I would bet you my bank balance at least ONE of them would have said yes.

This sort of behavior is just perverse, if you need a girlfriend in Japan, you can find one.

This really is good advice. Many women give in to personal doubt and don't trust their instincts

I agree

when it is actually more important to be safe than sorry.

For all women, read this great book: the gift of fear by Gavin De Becker. It gives advice and explain how instinct work and to always trust it.

The attack was probably only a few seconds, not sure anyone would have enough time to fetch the spray/sauce and put it on the pervert before it goes away.

You would have to always remember to carry it in a quickly accessible way and not lose your wits when it happens.

The best is to rehearse the move to be ready.

It's her word against his. I see a long 20 days in jail unless he confesses.

Groping is also illegal in Japan

So what's your point ?

Just criticism without any other problem solving solutions ?

Advising someone to carry a weapon in Japan is bad advice, as it's a solution that creates other problems.

Do these idiots actually think this excuse will hold up?

What makes you think not remembering would be grounds for excusing them from culpability?

This may be why we need oppai bars for these perverts.

"Article 1-2 of the Minor Offense Act outlaws carrying "any other instrument that can be used to (...) cause serious bodily harm without a justifiable reason". Yes, this is the same paragraph that outlaws knives. Courts have applied this article to pepper spray and did not accept self-defense as justifiable reason."

@Wallace how about skunk spray!!! LOL the perp will have a hell of a time trying to get that off besides he would be noticed right away by everyone because of the stench he will have no where to hide and good luck trying to get it off or out of your clothes it will take some doing.

Do they even sell that here? I think the same applies to bear or pepper spray.

Do these idiots actually think this excuse will hold up? How stupid do they think law enforcement and the courts are?

Get Pepper spray ladies, and don't be afraid to use it.

> Understandable yet bad advice. Carrying pepper spray is illegal in Japan

Just use perfume. Get a cheap bottle and works just as well. Or bug spray.

How many other guys were "analyzed" through the camera footage? So what it comes down to, if the cops can't beat, ah sorry, "get" a confession from the guy, is a "she-said/he-said" situation.

The dude can kiss his "company" good bye, guilty or not guilty.

There are no laws against possession or use, but using it could result in imprisonment, depending on the damage caused to the target. Stupid or Stupid?

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

Since this is about Japan, why do men have a need to just touch a women's breasts and then run away? Is this some kind of a historical norm?

Does someone know how much does the "no recollection" or "drunk" excuse knocks off a sentence as this seems to be a norm for these professional pervs?
