Man held for arson, murder after 11-year-old daughter dies in blaze

The remains of an 11-year-old girl were found after her home was destroyed in a fire in Nakatsugawa, Gifu Prefecture, early Thursday morning. Police have arrested her 48-year-old father on suspicion of setting fire to the house and causing her death.

According to police, Shigeru Ishihara, a company employee, poured kerosene over his two-story wooden house and set fire to it just after 1 a.m., killing his second daughter Kasumi.

Ishihara was quoted by police as saying that he got into a fight with his 19-year-old sumo wrestler son about his future. Following the dispute, Ishihara said he flew into a rage and decided to set fire to the house. Police said that Ishihara has also made vague remarks about his intent to murder his family.

another sad story to start my day.

That poor little girl. And I don't usually ask this, but where was the mother? And the 19-year old son for that matter? It's not unusual that she was alone with her father or anything, I just would like to know. This is so sad, and I can't imagine what they must be thinking/feeling. I hope the father pays for this.

Rest in Peace, little girl. Yet again I find myself asking: "Who is looking after the children of Japan?" This child killer deserves nothing less than execution.

How about a punishment to fit the crime. Lower him into the flames at a crematorium while he kicks and screams.

'...flew into a rage...'

Flew into a fit of pique more like.

Children in charge of children.

talking about his son's future --- and this guy destroyed the little girl's future AND the 19-year-old son's future as well.

kokorocloud-

I don't usually ask this, but where was the mother? And the 19-year old son for that matter?

this incident happened in the middle of the night, and the mother was actually in the house sleeping (no surprise). there were their oldest son, oldest daughter and this 11-year-old girl, all 3 of them were asleep.

the second son (19-year-old sumo wrestler) and this father were having an argument and the father said he was going to commit family suicide and then spilled kerosene and put the fire in front of the son.

the 11-year-old girl died but his other children and also his wife were injured according to Japanese news.

apparently, the 19-year-old son came home and told the father that he did not want to be a sumo wrestler anymore and the father got really angry about it.

add to that, the 11-year-old girl escaped from the house with other family members, but she ran back to the house saying her cat was still inside. she must have been such a sweet girl, trying to rescue her kitty...

2 houses next to this father's house were burned down as well.

Thanks as always fishy, for adding the details. The story still... makes me wonder, but at least we know a little more. And it just got more disturbing somehow. Son quits sumo so that automatically equals "I must kill all of us!"?

Oh, I posted my comment before I read the rest-- She went back to save her cat?! Poor kid... Why did no one stop her? And actually that little detail kind of changes things somehow, doesn't it?

Argh, this story is upsetting on so many levels.

debucho and kokoro - your welcome :)

well, the father, I think, has got some serious problem -- anger management, is something he needs to work on... but it is a bit too late now.. how sad.

kokoro- yes, it is so sad and i wish someone dragged her bacak when she tried to go back in to help the kitty.. i don't know if anyone was holding her hand or if she suddenly ran back.. i don't know, but it makes me sad that the girl was so sweet to try to help her cat and had to die this way. animals/pets are family members, and she really showed to the terrible father how every life matters. sad.

So the father was upset at the direction his son's future was heading, so he burns the house down and murders his daughter...that a way to show him. I'm so sorry the daughter was caught in this mess.

The scenario repeats itself in the same week, although this one didn't try to off himself, not yet anyway. Just utter nut cases!

She died in attempt to save her cat? She's an angel.

Kitty is not worth a human life. No matter how much you love it. The father though... calling him beneath contempt, is holding him in too high of regard.

She was 11-years-old...how would she know any better, that cat was family to her. She did what she thought was right, bless her heart.

So what happened to the kitty?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

What I mean is before I get slammed, was, did she run inside for no reason because the cat hitailed it out the back window? RIP little girl.

dont know what happened to the cat, i hope the cat is with the girl in heaven, purring and comforting her.

the girl's oldest brother woke up and called the police -- and everyone including this father ran outside --- the father said "family suicide" before setting fire.. if he wanted to die, i wish he didn't ran outside with everyone else. if he thought it was the end, i wanted him to end it just for himself and not everyone else.

starting this think they need issue licenses to people even have kids. How could you do this to any kids, muchless your own

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Agree with skipthesong.

Make wannabe parents apply for licenses. First they have to attend some form of schooling & psychology counseling, then if they qualify they'll obtain a license.

I know this sounds pathetic, but just reading some of these pathetic stories of pathetic parents justifies it IMHO...
