Most people live from hand to mouth,doing baito and hakken.Nothing to save.Most have to do zangyo to survive.In that sense majority of the Japanese populace already live like third world or even worse when you factor in cost of living.

Ken, you are not wrong. I've talked to lots of people who are struggling because of the lack of overtime, which is how they really get ahead. Isn't it a crime that people have to work so many extra hours just to come out ahead, while companies are pocketing profits and not returning it to the workers.

JeffLee, I agree with you many times, but this poor guy may have been a part-timer, or contract worker who didn't qualify for unemployment benefits, or they may have run out, who knows. But as you are always railing against big corporations for being terrible corporate citizens and not helping out the people of Japan, I thought you of all people would be more sympathetic.

We will see more of this. And one of the problems with crime is that the victims are disproportionally people who are also struggling to make ends meet. The politicians and the rich, as usual, are protected from the problems they helped to create.

Exactly. He gave you all his money and you still had to assault him. This isn't just a thief. This is a thug who could even progress to killing.

Japan has unemployment compensation sort of, but it takes 3 months for it to kick in, in the meantime SOL. Desperate measures call for desperate actions. Instead of the Olympics why doesn't this government do more to speed up the process, what a waste of funding.

But incidents like these are very likely fuelled by increasingly desperate people facing no way out of Covid and economic malaise induced poverty.

not a thug... he was just very miserable and wanted to take his anger out on anyone where he could to relieve his anguish mind in retaliation from losing his job and is starving.
