Kanagawa Prefectural Police have arrested a 28-year-old company employee on suspicion of assaulting and robbing an 18-year-old vocational school student in July.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 11:45 p.m. on July 26 on a sidewalk in Hadano City, Sankei Shimbun reported. Police said the suspect, Yutaro Toyoda, approached the girl from behind and choked her before making off with her shoulder bag containing about 5,000 yen in cash and personal belongings.
Toyoda emerged as a suspect after he was captured on street surveillance camera footage near the crime scene. After attacking the girl, Toyoda was seen throwing away the bag and fleeing the scene.
Police said he has admitted to stealing the shoulder bag but denies choking the victim.© Japan Today
