Man arrested for attempted murder after car chase and strangling ex-girlfriend in Chiba

A 31-year-old man was arrested for attempted murder on Saturday in Kimitsu City, accused of strangling his 21-year-old ex-girlfriend, who remains unconscious in hospital, police said Sunday.

Yosuke Koga had been seeing the female university student for about two years since he met her in the restaurant she worked at, but the woman told him recently she wanted to break up. According to police, Koga waited in his car for the woman to come home late Friday night, and when she saw him, she drove off in her car and Koga gave chase in his car. The woman stopped her car about 10 kilometers away, where Koga is accused of strangling her with his hands and a seatbelt.

Koga called his mother and told her he had killed someone, and his mother called police. The woman was rushed to hospital, where she remains unconscious. Koga told police that he intended to kill the woman if she refused to date him any more, and that he bought a metal bar and a knife.

The woman filed a report with police last Tuesday after Koga hit her, fracturing her rib. Police advised her to move back into her parents’ home temporarily and to move her car away from her apartment. They began preparing an arrest warrant for assault and were scheduled to arrest Koga on Saturday, but did not patrol the area outside the woman’s apartment.

Hope the girl recovers.

What is it with these immature idiots calling their mothers; living at home with his manga stash I bet. FFS. Lock him up for good, and whilst he's in there, send him his ex^s wedding pics.

What is it with these immature idiots committing crimes against defenceless women and then calling their mothers. Living at home with his manga stash I bet. FFS. Lock him up for good, and whilst he's in there, send him his ex^s wedding pics.

They began preparing an arrest warrant for assault and were scheduled to arrest Koga on Saturday

Yeah, right

When will it come out that she had been to see the police to complain about him and they told her they couldn't do anything??

I think I would be arrested on the spot if I were to crack another person's rib. Why wait 4 or 5 days? No, the victim has to flee her home.

Obviously they could do something. They could arrest him and they planned to do so on Saturday.

"They were scheduled to arrest him on Saturday."

"Hello, Mr Koga, we would like to arrest you on Saturday. What time would be convenient?"

Lock him up for good, and whilst he's in there, send him his ex's wedding pics.

Why do that? It is not like he will be locked up for long (we all wish and hope it would be long) and he will just hunt them down and kill them both and then himself. Hopefully she will be able to recover, physically and emotionally and be able to start a new.

Ah, brilliant. The local constabulary at its usual best.

too little too late. how long does it take to do up an arrest warrant? sounds like lazy bs trying to cover their own rear. if i were the parents of this young lady, id be sure mad at the cops.

Ah, brilliant. The local constabulary at its usual best.

To be fair, it could be the case that they tried, but the judge / judicial process was being stupidly slow as usual, thus their hands were tied. So if they went to arrest the sh*t, he would've claimed what they did was illegal etc, and in all likelyhood not been able be arrested at all.

The other day it was a dude pretending to be dead until his mother showed up. These guys give a whole new meaning to the term momma's boy

When will these young Jap chicks learn that any man in his 30's chasing chicks in their early 20' (or younger) is just an immature fetish loser? I remember having a senior high school student who was dating one of her father's friends who was in his mid-thirties. These young chicks dating older men do not deserve to the treatment they ALL end up receiving, but they are just plain stupid to date them in the first place. I'm not sure who are the biggest losers. The men chasing the young chicks or the chicks themselves for dating them.

When is this place going to learn that one size does not always fit all? Claims need to be investigated... And this from experience - not all claims are true...

I think this case is a blatant example of the incompetency of the J-cops to take action in important cases, (where someone's life is in danger) while chasing around using endless man/women power to arrest a marginal or even steady drug user (Nori-P and husband), but not a significant dealer. The other day I read where the U.N. has issued a warning to Japan to give women more rights to the workplace. How about more rights to a safe and decent life! without fear of getting strangeled by a jilted ex.

Such needy men in Japan. It all too often seems that they need their girlfriend, lover, momma or their agent to take care of them. Ridiculous. Man up Japan. Learn to take care of your own emotional and physical needs like the ladies seem to be doing, however slowly.

Hate to disagree with you isthis.. but in my personal experience the tilt is the other way... way too much belief is given to the supposed J victim in many cases simply due to them being a woman...and Japanese- especially where there is a foreigner involved. I think there should be equal due diligence applied to all reports and - here is a BIG one - in cases where the 'victim' is shown to have lied - some sort of punishment is needed... not just the ordinary 'apology'... The women who 'use the system' actually are harming those who 'NEED the system' ...

Hey Korewa, it says the woman's ribs were broken! Hello? Don't mix apples with oranges. This is clear and unadulterated already penetrated physical violence. Not to be confused with your "equal due diligence" opinion.

Is that because they were too busy riding their fancy white bikes or stopping random foreigners for illegal searches? Japanese cops are just a bunch of useless monkeys. Serve and protect? never heard of that one.

I hope the doctors will be a bit better and will actually save that poor girl...

I agree with most posters that the police are totally incompetent in this case (and far too many other cases), but I think in this case the police should be charged also - aiding and abeting, and maybe conspiracy.

They seemed to be much more actively involved in the crime.

isthistheend & KoreWaNihon both make valid points. KoreWa is 100% correct that the legal system in Japan needs to start exercising due diligence while investigating an alleged crime. This would help nullify potential false accusations, and would require Jcops to do more than pounce on the nearest foreigner with the assumption of guilt.

I also agree with isthis, though, that in this case in particular, the Jcops were grossly negligent. They had the duty to immediately arrest this man for assault when he broke this woman's rib. I find it hard to believe that it would take THAT LONG to get an arrest warrant on an aggravated assault charge. At the very least they should have kept him under observation during the course of their investigation, given the spate of recent incidents involving men kidnapping ex-girlfriends and attempting to kill them, their loved ones, or the new objects of their affection (sometimes successfully). If they'd done so, they could have saved this poor young woman and her family this kind of pain and hardship.

I sincerely hope she recovers.

"love hurts", and some men just can't deal with their pain. The "macho" man is a wuss? And aren't j-cops macho men? They were when I was there 50 years ago. They sympathize with the man? Misogynists at heart maybe?
