Man arrested for attempted murder after stabbing mother on Kobe street

A 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed his 68-year-old mother in Kobe last week. Police said the man then tried to commit suicide by stabbing himself in the neck.

According to police, a passerby called 119 at around 9 p.m. on Sept 2 and said a man and a woman were lying on a street in Kita Ward, Fuji TV reported. Police rushed to the scene and found the two, Moemi Kawasaki and her son Shuhei, on the street outside their home. They were lying about three meters apart.

Police said Shuhei had been stabbed in the neck and his mother had several stab wounds in her back. She also had a cord tightly wound around her neck as if someone had tried to strangle her, police said.

A blood-stained knife was found near Shuhei.

Both were taken to hospital where police spoke with them on Tuesday. Police said Moemi told them her son had tried to kill her. Police arrested Shuhei late Tuesday. However, they said he has denied the charge.

Earlier observations it was a “quiet area”, speculations on “an assailant known to the victim(s)“ seemed to have been correct, and fears of this being a random crime as unwarranted:

Killing you mother, this is truly rare in my country. And it is considered a monstruous act nearly as horrible as killing a child.

He wasn't even mentioned as insane (so far).

Family nucleus is the most important to get a better life, it seems a screwed situation for quite a minority of parents.

Not helping for any rebound of demography.

Love and confidence is important inside relationships.

I am getting tied of Japanese families getting violent.

Can't they just sit down and talk like mature adults?

No need for stabbings.

So he stabbed her multiple times, but apparently didn’t know that he needed to aim for the heart?

And he stabs his neck, not going for the jugular?

No wonder he’s such a loser, he doesn’t even know basic anatomy?

Excellent job there, Shuhei.

I called this back on Sept 3...... so obvious.... Mother stabbed in the back, son tries to slash his own throat, no witnesses, and the weapon "left" at the scene?

Sep. 3 05:58 pm JST Posted in: 68-year-old woman, 37-year-old son found stabbed on Kobe street See in context

I suspect the son may have stabbed his mother then himself but we will see in time.

@shogun36

Didn't the jugular used to be in the neck?

Three Cheers!” for *@Mr.Kipling!*** *Today’s “I told you so!” Winner. - Actually, there were earlier* posts taken down that afternoon with the same conclusion but luckily, your slid by.

*- @Mr Kipling Sep. 4 9:27am: “No witnesses to the attack? Mother stabbed in back? Son in the neck? Knife found at the scene? Forensics will be easily able to tell if the neck wounds are self inflicted. Why would the attacker leave the knife?*

*Watch this space.... Son going down!**” -*

Good for You! Persistence is Everything! -

Tragically, it’s all at the expense of more Japanese family-member on family-member violencecurrently trending”.

Cheers!

Its quite normal for the police in Japan to report crimes but not mention that they know exactly who they are looking for.

Understood @MrKipling 1:31p. The media also play their part well in giving limited, preliminary details and benefit getting traffic by having readers cover basically the same story twice. (Who says “Crime doesn’t pay”?). Now, if we could only get them to admit and give stats on the frequent and, perhaps, increasing inter-familial violence in Japan.

Is Japan Today the only news site you read?

Show me one country with a population or population density similar to Japan without violence.

No, you couldn’t @Paul 5:28pm: “You couldn't make this crap up even if you tried!!!” - @longtimenosee 4:42 p has an equal observation about a current, *possibly *increasing trend of inter-familial violence in Japan:

Like a stuck record, our resident amen corner continue their refrain; 'these are outliers, and there’s nothing to see here, move along'. Their cherished belief in an Arcadian Japan, one that exists only in their imagination, brooks no contradiction and their deflections that stem from a stubborn desire not to want to confront the truth have begun to take on an almost surreal quality, despite the fact that incidents such as this one and the 20 year old who attacked his parents are now daily staples of crime reporting. Unpalatable as these daily proofs are, they aren’t going to be solved by the ostrich reflex, or mimicking the three wise monkeys, but by consigning the myth to the realm of mythology and henceforth joining the reality based community’s search for solutions.
