A 37-year-old truck driver has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after he injured another truck driver with a knife following a road rage incident on the Tomei Expressway in Shizuoka Prefecture.

According to police, at around 9:40 p.m. on Friday, truck driver Hirohito Nakahashi, 47, who lives in Misato, Saitama Prefecture, called 110 from the Ashigara service area along the expressway in Oyama-cho, Shizuoka Prefecture, Fuji TV reported. He told police he had been cut in the neck by another truck driver.

When police arrived at the scene, they found Nakahashi and his alleged attacker, Hiroki Nishiyama, at the scene. Nishiyama was arrested, while Nakahashi was taken to a hospital to be treated for his neck wound. He was in a stable condition on Saturday, police said.

Police said Nishiyama, who is from Osaka City’s Ikuno Ward, has admitted to the charge and quoted him as saying “He (the victim) cut across in front of me.”

Police said Nakahashi told them he was driving his truck along the expressway when he changed lanes in front of Nishiyama’s truck. The suspect apparently became enraged and tailgated Nakahashi along the expressway until they reached the service area.

After stopping their trucks, Nishiyama approached the victim’s vehicle and ordered him to open the door. He then stabbed Nakahashi while he was still seated.

I am afraid to imagine what would happen in Japan if gun ownership was not strictly controlled.

Considering that the guy who was recently found to have owned a hundred illegal firearms did absolutely nothing with them, I would say not much would happen at all.

Road rage is a big problem in North America as well.

Living in both places, I would have to say it seems to be worse in Japan, right now. (At least when compared to California. In may be worse in other parts of the US.)

Also, there tends to be a certain comradery with truckers in the US, while the truckers on Japan seem to be more competitive with each other.

I always thought that the ‘gold licence’ was responsible for keeping the drivers in Japan polite and courteous-maybe not....

It's no surprise we are reading of yet another road rage incident within a week in Japan. There is a serious breakdown in society going on, and no longer is safety guaranteed anywhere.

Road rage is a big problem in North America as well. People are so impatient, they can't wait few seconds. Is this because we are so spoiled? or, because we are so used to get answer quickly on the smart phone, so we think everything else should be like that? It looks like we lost ability to slow down.

Alright! Finally my town (Oyama-cho) makes the news for something. But seriously, truckers here in Japan seemed very short tempered. Probably due to the insane overtime and irregular hours they work. Definitely not a great job for your mental and physical health.

This is a reason people always say to be careful of vehicles with Osaka area license plates. They are short-tempered and break rules. Live here to see it firsthand.

Is that a justifiable reason to attack someone with a knife?

I think not.

Not blaming the victim here, but it sure seems like calling the cops and keeping the vehicle locked up until they arrived would have been a better move. Just because some maniac orders you to open your door, you don't actually have to do it!

Maybe Japan should cancel the subway baggage inspection plan & move it to an entrance of the Tomei. Seems to be many more nutters driving than taking the train.

How dare he change lanes in front of him!!

I had a truck driver go psycho on me for exactly that. Some of the truck drivers here are clearly unhinged.

Another nutter carrying and using a knife in the safety country. I am afraid to imagine what would happen in Japan if gun ownership was not strictly controlled.
