Man arrested for attempted murder of girlfriend

Police in Matsubara, Osaka, said Thursday they have arrested a 52-year-old man on suspicion of attempting to kill his 47-year-old girlfriend.

According to police, Shinichi Kondo stabbed his girlfriend in the neck with a knife in the parking lot outside the municipal apartment building where she lives at around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sankei Shimbun reported.

A passerby alerted police who rushed to the scene and arrested Kondo who still had the knife with him. The woman, who is a caregiver, was stabbed in the chest and neck. She was taken to hospital and was in a stable condition on Thursday, police said.

Kondo, a company employee, was quoted by police as saying he got upset with the woman because she had been cold toward him recently and had talked about ending their relationship. He said he just wanted to talk to her but she was cool toward him again, so he stabbed her.
