Police on Monday arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of attempting to murder his girlfriend's father after an altercation outside her home in Nagoya.
According to police, the cause of the trouble is not yet clear but it resulted in 45-year-old Toshiyuki Kato clinging to the driver's seat as the suspect, identified as Shoichi Saito, drove 300 meters down the street. Police said that Saito accelerated and dragged Kato down the road before attempting to slam his car into a guard rail, causing Kato to let go of the driver's seat. Saito is then alleged to have abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene on foot, at which point he was pursued by police.
During police questioning, Saito was quoted as saying, "I was just trying to get away from him, even though I knew he would probably be injured."© Compiled from news reports
