Man arrested for attempted rape of teenage girl suspect in similar crimes

Police in Tokyo have arrested a 39-year-old man on suspicion of attempted rape after he broke into the home of a teenage girl in Edogawa Ward earlier this month.

The suspect has been identified as Tsuyoshi Sasaki, a resident of Edogawa Ward, whose occupation is unknown, Sankei Shimbun reported. According to police, Sasaki got into the apartment through an unlocked window at around 4 a.m. on Sept 7 and attempted to rape the girl who was asleep at the time. She woke up and screamed, which prompted Sasaki to flee.

Sasaki surfaced as a suspect after street surveillance camera footage showed him leaving the scene on a bicycle.

After his arrest, Sasaki was quoted by police as stating, “I couldn’t control my sexual desire.” Police suspect that Sasaki may be responsible for at least three similar assaults in the area recently.

Incestuous rape is even worse. I hope she's ok and getting help because sooner or later she's gonna need it.

I tried to find her online, but I think she is either hiding from her father who is not in jail (that I know of) or ...

I hope she's just hiding.

What a despicable comment.

Why? Someone made a blanket comment that they have no way to verify. So I must assume that in order for them to make such a declaration that they must have been there every time.

Explain ***when exactly* rape isn't an act of violence and control.**

I already did. "I imagine some do it simply for selfish reasons. They want their kicks but nobody wants to give them."

I had a GF in college who had been raped years before we met and she had issues with it all even though I tried to comfort her. It was all too much, she finally ended her life a few years ago and it makes me so sad that I couldn't do anything for this woman.

That's awful. My high school gf was raped by her father when she was very young. Looking back, I think she did fairly well coping with it. I don't know where she is now. I think of her every now and then and hope she is okay.

Rape is like a landmine in some ways. It can take years before it manifests or blossoms into serious emotional and/or sexual problems in the future. Incestuous rape is even worse. I hope she's ok and getting help because sooner or later she's gonna need it.

2) attempted rape . prison time

3) multiple offender concurrent prison time.

or released back into Edogawa Ward, unemployed roaming its streets

It IS violent in most cases, I would guess, but I don’t think it’s always about control.

*Rape is always violent, always about control.*

It certainly is, and imposing fear. And the ones who molest children are the most disgusting because small kids don't know what sex is yet and if they are molested it's hard for them to find the words to describe the act.

Rape affects victims of all ages, male and female. It's nothing but a violent act, a violation. It affects them physically and psychologically.

blahblah222Today  01:44 pm JST

will this girl ever recover psychologically?

My friend was raped when she was in middle school, and until this day she still have PTSD episodes.

When it happens to someone, they're not the same anymore. I had a GF in college who had been raped years before we met and she had issues with it all even though I tried to comfort her. It was all too much, she finally ended her life a few years ago and it makes me so sad that I couldn't do anything for this woman.

Rape is a violation of one's self and privacy!

To clarify -

They do need to be watched like other recently released (slowly pulled back month by month if no actions or lead ups), but not advertised to the point of being unable to integrate back into society. Studies show that if you fail to reintegrate back into society, crime explodes.

It's well established that rapists are recidivists

In countries especially with an offender registry, there really is no where else to go. Even if one tried to turn their life around (or were actually innocent to begin with), the only way out from the modern scarlet letter is back in prison or suicide.

She might be a university student or somebody who came to Tokyo to work. In their late teens they are adults and quite able to live on their own

Agreed, but the article said teenage girl. Girl implies underage.

"I couldn’t control my sexual desire."

I was riding my bike by one of those all girls jr high, and an ancient raggedy dusty j-guard was watching me, then another slob coming up the the street , was trying to piggyback on the j-guards assumption, but I kept going. These obsolete busy body slobs dont know their history. The are the ones doing that crap in japan , JT numerous rape and molestation articles confirm.

Is it because women are looked upon as merely objects here?

And many Japanese women embrace this and don't see a problem with it. Sad but that's the reality.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

It is about control, and fear. Rape is a violation, an invasion.

It can be about control for the attacker. I'm sure it's all about fear for the victim. It is definitely a violation and invasion.

It can also be about getting kicks.

If it were only about control, then what a boss who is too controlling is doing is equivalent to rape.

will this girl ever recover psychologically?

My friend was raped when she was in middle school, and until this day she still have PTSD episodes.

And of course, as of all sexual criminals in Japan, her perpetrator was not prosecuted for anything and received no punishment.

I can guarantee you that this guy as well, in a few months, will have a small article on how the prosecutors decided not to press charges. Out of 100 reported rapes in Japan, maybe only 1-2 ever moves to prosecution.

“I couldn’t control my sexual desire.”

Lame excuse! If he lusted so much then why couldn't he go to a strip club or a bordello?

And taking your 'desire' on a little girl is rape and it's WRONG.

Rape CAN be because the offender (sometimes a woman) wants to control the victim (sometimes a man) but I imagine some do it simply for selfish reasons. They want their kicks but nobody wants to give them. It IS violent in most cases, I would guess, but I don’t think it’s always about control.

It is about control, and fear. Rape is a violation, an invasion. i feel sad for her because she has been violated, her virginity was forcably taken from her and one way or another she will never be the same again.

Rape's effects linger for life.

Do the numbers reflect reality? It's common knowledge that the majority of victims won't approach the police as the system is against them.

In any country.

AgentXToday  08:03 am JST

Japan is way down the rankings.

Do the numbers reflect reality? It's common knowledge that the majority of victims won't approach the police as the system is against them. And even if they do, the 'dispute' is often settled with cash behind closed doors. There have been no shortage of high profile cases to attest to that in recent years. How about the number of rapists her in Japan that walk away from a penalty because they were 'drunk' or 'can't remember' etc. Do you live under a rock?

MariaToday  08:02 am JST

Statistics of reported rape in Japan are meaningless, since the rate of report is so low. Women are actively discouraged - by those around them, by the police, and by their own awareness that they won't be treated well at all. The investigation can be brutal on the victim. The vast majority of rapes remain unreported.

From the same article:

https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/rape-statistics-by-country

The United States has a rape rate of 27.3. As in many other countries, rape is grossly underreported in the United States due to victim shaming, fear of reprisal, fear of family knowing, cases not being taken seriously by law enforcement, and possible lack of prosecution for the perpetrator. Only 9% of rapists in the US get prosecuted and only 3% of rapists will spend a day in prison. 97% of rapists in the United States will walk free.

This is interesting. Rape is not love making, its violence. Some guys want to control girls. They get off on the violence. Control. Girls in Japan are much more stronger now than when I arrived here 20 years ago. Japanese guys cannot control the women here anymore. So, they get frustrated and become angry and hence, violence occurs.

I disagree. Rape CAN be because the offender (sometimes a woman) wants to control the victim (sometimes a man) but I imagine some do it simply for selfish reasons. Sasaki was quoted by police as stating, “I couldn’t control my sexual desire.”

Perhaps an 8-10 year stint in prison will help him control those sexual desires.

Not only Japanese men, many other countries are far worse, look at this:

https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/rape-statistics-by-country

Japan is way down the rankings.

You can't call upon rape statistics when the Japanese themselves say that less than 10% of rapes are reported. Most rape victims are dissuaded by their society and police. As if they will be shamed and stamped with a scarlet letter.

What I can agree with you on is the "not only Japanese men," part. In societies across the world, rape and understanding consent are huge problem that needs to be tackled.

The report makes it look like she lived by herself. Is she 16, 19? Did her parents give her a place separate from their house or did I just not read that correctly?

So long as what he attempted to do continues to be celebrated in porn, he won't be the last, in Japan or anywhere else.

Kind of like making guns freely available, celebrating gun violence in movies and historical narratives, then hoping it doesn't occur in real life.

Well, anything for a buck, right? After all, it's my "freedom of expression" to promote my soapland clubs and keep the money flowing for my organization.

Poor girl, can't even imagine the fear and psychological scar caused by this. Wish her the best. I hope they police will be able to link him to the other cases and lock him up for a long time.
