Police said Monday they have arrested a 56-year-old man in Atsugi, Kanagawa Prefecture, for allegedly killing his 84-year-old mother.

Masaru Takanashi is accused of punching and killing his mother, Teru Takanashi, at their home on Sunday morning. Fuji TV reported that Takanashi called the police himself to report the incident. Police say he was arrested at the scene and taken into custody.

Takanashi was quoted by police as saying he punched his mother because she wouldn't go out and buy breakfast, Fuji reported.

Another person that should go away for the rest of his life.

Most likely was a spoiled brat when he was little.

Sickening ! You're 56 and still expect your 84 year old mother to go out and get you breakfast ? I hope your act of matricide haunts you for the rest of your misserable, selfish life. Hopefully it will be prison breakfasts from now on.

It wouldve been a story the other way around without the death. She clocks him to get up off his a**... Mommas boys and laziness is in no shortage here... and that is the truth.

What a pathetic son...

Hope this opens the eyes to all the mothers to STOP PAMPERING YOUR CHILDREN AND TEACH THEM MORE INDEPENDANCE!

CLOSE the BASES ! BAN the Osprey ! ...What ?; oh...NEVERMind (Gilda' Radner voice)

How sad to be killed by your own son. This is a person whom a mother would trust most for safety. This man is a garbage.

Another case of "spare the rod and spoil the child" ?

Wow, 56 year old guy living with 84 year old mother? All those commenting above, how many of you would manage to live day in and day out with an ageing relative? I see my Mum occasionally for a few weeks and it can be pretty trying at times.......

Many of the commenters here are commenting like this is the story of a spoiled teenager killing a parent. THIS MAN WAS 56 YEARS OLD! This is not a case of "spare the rod, spoil the child". Even though I hate to say it because it always makes me cringe when I see it here, but there is obviously more to the story...

A glimpse of the future?

I always get a kick out of reading the "reasons" Japanese give for committing crimes.

Hitting your mum is one thing. But accidentally killing her is another. Honestly, rage emits for many different reasons. He could have had a mental clinical condition which enforced the idea that violence was the solution. Surely, one wouldn't immediately think that punching someone would kill them. Unfortunately, this man didn't know or think that it would kill his mother.

Does he deserve prison for the rest of his life in an act of accidental first degree? I'm not entirely sure.

Because if, let's say, you got mad and punched someone at a bar or at school. You don't expect them to flop over and die. So should you be charged with murder, or assault?

They should asses his mentality, check in case, to see if he might have bipolarism or borderline personality disorder. Because people don't launch into a fit over missing breakfast to provoke violent behavior unless their's some sort of chemical imbalance in the brain.

So before you heartfelt individuals throw your hands up in cheer, think of this mans probably mental state. He might have something clinically wrong. And it all seems to be an accidental outcome.

What a complete and utter loser! His 84 y/o mother wouldn't go out and buy breakfast for him so he killed her? Are you serious? There are some wonderful people in Japan, but there is also a lot of trailer trash.

Wakarimasen...so, what are you implying?

Tizalleyman

How do you think it starts ? Japanese kids are so used to hitting their parents if they don't get their own way ! It just becomes a bad "ingrained" habit - except that this "kid" probably didn't realize he'd grown bigger and stronger over the years...

Articles abond about parents killing their children here and now a man kills his mother. I remember a while back that some young man killed his mother because his "chahan" was too soft. What gives?

The sad thing is I'm not surprised any more.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

again an unemployed adult living off its old parent(s), probably having mental issues. anger management at least one of them.

Obviously there is a LOT more underneath this.

I'm surprised that anyone has any kind of opinion about this. JT just doesn't give us enough information to form any kind of opinion.

A glimpse of the future?

Nope, the pre4sent sadly & Japan has been there for quite a while & this is only going to get worse

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

You're 56 and still expect your 84 year old mother to go out and get you breakfast ?

Well if you were raised that way and never had to make it or get it yourself, yes. How many times have you seen small BOYS (never seen a girl to be honest) smack their mom in the face and not be told off or punished? This behaviour starts when they're young and just grows with age. Expect to see a lot more of this happen in the future with the economic and job crisis getting worse.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Well, he'll definitely be having breakfast bought to him everyday from now on. In prison.

The sad thing is that this poor old lady probably endured years, decades of mental, psychology and physical abuse from this spoilt man child.

JanesBlonde,

The sad thing is that this poor old lady probably endured years, decades of mental, psychology and physical abuse from this spoilt man child.

Or, equally, it might have been the other way round.

Who knows?

As I said, there isn't enough information in the article to formulate any kind of opinion.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Another one?

Is this because mothers refuse to chastise their sons, so allowing them to turn into the selfish, petty, self-centred, misogynistic buggers you read about every day?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

He'll get a light sentence, it was "murder all in the family".

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Because if, let's say, you got mad and punched someone at a bar or at school. You don't expect them to flop over and die. So should you be charged with murder, or assault?

There is a world of difference between punching someone in a bar or at school, and punching an 84 year old frail old lady.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Well, he won't be collecting on his Mum's pension anymore, so the cruellest punishment of all would be to send him back home to look after himself into old age.

As I said, there isn't enough information in the article to formulate any kind of opinion.

Perhaps. However, one would think if a situation was bad enough for the 56 year old son to get that angry, that he would have found his own place to live before killing his mother.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Disgusting!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

He'll now have 3 meals brought to him everyday for the rest of his life.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

she should have thrown him out when he was 16 like all normal people / countries... so its all her fault in the end

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Mel Ray: Hitting your Mum is one thing?

I think I was ineptly trying to say that it is entirely feasible to lose one's temper with an ageing realtive with whom one lives full time and at the same time trying to say that any kinfd of violence itowards such ageinf relative is wrong and also poking at the sanctimonious tones of other posters on this topic. Think i probabaly failed miserably.

...the fundamental issue is why the hell junior can't pay his own rent. thanks.

I posted this earlier but the mods deleted it for some reason. Where in the article does it say he was living at HER house? Based on the way the article was written, she could just have easily been staying at HIS house. Ditto for him being "unemployed". Considering JT's penchant for making sure to mention if someone is unemployed and how there's NO mention of his employment status in this article, how could you POSSIBLY start assuming that? Stop making assumptions based on the pitifully small amount of info reported, people! It only results in following posts to assume your guesses are fact.

What kind of breakfast ? Mister Donuts ? Egg McMuffin ? Cookies & Milk ?

What did he want ? McDonald's has delivery service now right ?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Spoiled, selfish, inconsiderate should have been making his mothers breakfast and making sure she was looked after. What a horrible way to go....your own child ending your life...someone with the power to do so to him on a more drawn out level. He doesn't deserve the amount of tax payers money to keep him locked up for the rest of his miserable life.

Atsugi.... U.S. military base nearby with jets making all that noise.... must have drove him mad! Yep.... another case where the U.S. military can be blamed.
