Man arrested for beating ex-girlfriend to death

Police in Sapporo, Hokkaido, said Monday that they have arrested a 40-year-old unemployed man on suspicion of punching his ex-girlfriend to death.

The suspect, identified as Nobuhiko Kobayashi, assaulted Kazue Watanabe, 43, by punching her in the face at her apartment of Higashi Ward at around 5 p.m. Sunday, Fuji TV reported.

Another resident in the apartment building called police to report hearing a woman screaming from an apartment. When police arrived, Watanabe was lying on the floor unconscious. She was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Kobayashi and Watanabe lived in adjoining apartments, police said. Kobayashi has admitted to the charge and was quoted by police as saying that he got upset when he saw her come back to her apartment one time with another man.

I don't know about you but living next door to the ex is never a good idea. Tragic story indeed. RIP Miss!

"Another resident... called police to report hearing a woman screaming"

Well done to the neighbour for reporting it!!

Agree with @Parasite Single. Living next door to your ex is never a good idea, unless you really have no other choice.

Of course, that being said, one would think that a 40 something man would be "man" enough to understand the concept of "ex girlfriend" and that life goes on. Clearly not. And, of course, perhaps the state of his own life, such as being unemployed, had something to do with it.

A life cut short like this is to be mourned.

Wow. The jealousy. I wonder how soon she was able to "replace" Kobayashi. . . usually the sooner, the more angrier.

Guess his ex-girlfriend living in an adjoining apartment might've gave him a false sense of hope that they might actually get back together.

They just did a long segment about this on the news. They had previously been living together, but last year she moved into the apartment next door. It's not clear whether they were still dating at that time, but three times since then, she went to the police to complain about his violence. The police gave her details on a shelter and encouraged her to go to the shelter.

It's tragic that this guy couldn't exercise some self-control, but continuing to live next door to your ex, bringing a new guy home, and thinking there would be no complications or second-order effects is beyond foolish and careless.

Hell, I'm a guy, have nothing to fear from any woman I've dated, and I wouldn't risk bringing that sort of stress/complication into my life unless I was deliberately trying to cause emotional harm to the ex.

That would make someone a pretty vindictive dirtbag, which, as we've just seen, can have violent consequences.

Of course and most people's first move would to move far away. However if your finances aren't poppin', there is not much you can do. Sounds like they may have been living in government funded housing which usually has a waiting list if you are living in a convenient part of town.

So it's her fault?

that he got upset when she saw her come back to her apartment

I'm confused by this part. Did they mean to write 'when he saw her'?

If there is no error in the original, who's the other women they're talking about?

Moderator: Sorry, that was a typo that has been corrected.

she couldn't have been the sharpest tool in the shed if she broke up with her boyfriend and moved next door.

Or maybe she had no other options.

Some men can be so possessive and consumed by jealousy!

I'm a guy and the woman I had fallen hard for just dropped the bombshell on me that she'd chosen another man. I truly wish nothing but the best for her. I cannot imagine myself hurting her in the slightest way.

When you love someone, you set her free.

Goes the other way too dude.

Fatal attraction comes to mind.

Of course this guy should have the book thrown at him, but he doesn't fit the deranged lunactic profile.

I'd be interested to learn the back story to this one.

The headline is misleading. From the article he only punched her once. That does not mean he beat her to death. However, regardless of the headline this goon was obviously crazed and needs to be put away for a long time.

@Disillusioned - "The headline is misleading. From the article he only punched her once"

Unless you are reading a different article, you are going to need to explain yourself...

"beating ex-girlfriend to death...punching his ex-girlfriend to death" is quite explicit and is difficult to misinterpret...

Maybe "punching her in the face [REPEATEDLY]" is what you need to read!!... :-(
