Police in Sapporo, Hokkaido, on Friday arrested a 53-year-old man on suspicion of assaulting his girlfriend, who is in her 30s, at their home.
Police said the man, a used car dealer, is accused of punching his girlfriend in the face several times with his fist at around 11 p.m. on Thursday, Sapporo TV reported.
The woman suffered minor injuries, including a cut on her lower lip.
Police said the man chased the woman who had fled to a nearby convenience store. A store employee saw the two of them arguing and the man trying to drag her out of the store, so he called 110.
Police said both the man and the woman were intoxicated when they arrived at the convenience store.
Police said the man has admitted to the allegation and quoted him as saying, "I was annoyed by her attitude, so I hit her.”

It started "at THEIR home". Meaning, they shared a residence, which will mean there will be more opportunities for him to repeat this misbehavior. Used car dealers don't have great reputations no matter where someone goes!
