Police in Musashino, Tokyo, said Saturday they have arrested a 26-year-old man on suspicion of assault after he beat a 27-year-old man unconscious at a karaoke bar.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 3 a.m. Friday near JR Kichijoji Station. The suspect, Aguri Yoshiura, was at the karaoke establishment with a man and a woman.
Police said Yoshiura and the man apparently got into an argument and that Yoshiura beat the other man several times. The victim lost consciousness and was taken to hospital. Police said Saturday he has recovered consciousness but his injuries will take a month to heal.
Police quoted Yoshiura, a company employee, as saying he was drunk and can’t remember anything about the incident.

I knew I would read this when I saw the headline
Kobe White Bar Owner
I'd guess his pride was damaged in front of the woman.

I could have written that last paragraph without reading the story first

If being drunk to the point that you suffer total loss of memory was itself made an offence carrying a minimum 5 year sentence then that would change things: I wonder what then would be the usual excuse in these cases?

The fact of being drunk and capable of beating someone until he slips into unconsciousness should be enough to classify the incident as a crime. There are too many loopholes in the judiciary system.

My karaoke is the worst but so far; it hasn't earned me a beating.
Hope the victim heals fast and without lingering trauma of the attack.

Anyone who I have ever drank with that became argumentative or confrontational, I never drank with again.

Why is it that they ALWAYS list how long it will take for the victim's injuries to heal? Why is that essential? Do they include the psychological treatment the victim will need in their accounting of his recovery?
