Police in Sayama, Saitama Prefecture, on Sunday arrested an unemployed 31-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder after he beat a 38-year-old woman with a metal bat in the parking lot of a convenience store.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 8:10 a.m. outside a 7-Eleven store, Sankei Shimbun. The woman told police that a man she did not know came up from behind her in the parking lot and hit her on the back of the head with a metal bat.
Street surveillance camera footage showed the man driving away in a car. He was arrested later and identified as Genta Watanabe, police said.
The woman was taken to hospital where her condition is stable, police said.
Police said Watanabe has admitted to the charge and quoted him as saying he was frustrated.

"Police said Watanabe has admitted to the charge and quoted him as saying he was frustrated."
Hope they lock him up in a very small, very frustrating police then ask him every single day if hitting the innocent woman helped.

I'm glad she will be okay, coulda been much worse. But is one whack really a "beating" as the headline says?

Good god! I can't believe she is alive!
What a pos coward.

Does this one count as a nutter that should be institutionalised?

When the woman recovers she needs to be allowed to take a swing at the back of Watanabe's head with a bat of her choice. Nah,on second thought, that would just cost taxpayers even more loads of money, just keep him locked up and make him do hard labor for a long while.

Police quoted him as saying he was frustrated, another excuse of a male. Wonder what happened - Mommy stopped his manga allowance and told him to get a job?

excuse me while I make a comment:
what? mammy and pappy didn't teach this man-child to behave himself in public?

This is what I am afraid of Japan. there is a possibilities youll be hit by someone youve done nothing wrong.
Strangerland
I hate to break the bad news to you, but this is a possibility everywhere in the world. Literally everywhere, and Japan is not, and can not be an exception. We live in a state of controlled anarchy - police cannot actively prevent much of anything, they can only react after the fact. If someone decides to attack you for no reason, the police can only react to that. Anyone at any time could decide to do so, some people are crazy, some people are evil, some people are misguided, and some people have a reason that you may know nothing about.
So if you're afraid of Japan, you should also be afraid where you are right now.

I get frustrated too! However, never have I felt the need to whack random strangers with a baseball bat......

where is Zimmerman when you need him.
Strangerland
He would have been the guy with the bat. Although it wouldn't have been a bat, it would have been a gun.

The Nobel committee have been asking the same question.

Based off of reading JT every day, I never ever want to be in Saitama.
Not that I believe JP is dangerous or anything. Statistically compared to Los Angeles and Indio...

Japanese news said he hit the woman several times in the head.... With a metal baseball bat. Its a miracle she is still alive, and my thoughts are rather than let her at him, the police should give the bat to angry JT commenters, who would probably do much more damage.

"outside a 7-Eleven store" , at 8:10 a.m in the morning, in dai- saitama , surely there must have been people around getting coffee and such, who could have intervened on this poor woman's behalf, instead of having to rely on street surveillance camera footage, following this awful aftermath. But its a good thing cameras are everywhere in Japan these days.

Depends where in Saitama. Parts of it are extremely remote. I'm not sure how Sayama is though, I've never been there.

How do you know that? I've been outside many konbinis, at all hours of the day, where I'm the only person outside the store.
pudus
Perhaps it time to put more kobans in the vicinity, or proximity of konbinis.;Increased police patrolling wouldn't be a bad idea. too.

Jesus, what is wrong with these maniacs? You beat a woman with a metal bat because you're frustrated? Get a life you waste of space!
I'm happy the woman is alive - how is a mystery, but I'm happy that she's stable at least. Get well soon... no-one deserves that from a tosser with an attitude.
