Police in Sapporo have arrested a man on suspicion of property destruction after he kicked and broke the glass door at the entranceway to a supermarket.
Hokkaido Broadcasting Corp reported that the incident occurred at around 2 p.m. Monday at the supermarket in Higashi Ward. Before the incident, the suspect was roaming around the store and kicked the glass door as he was leaving the premises.
An employee called police. The man was still at the supermarket when police arrived. Police quoted him as saying he grew frustrated because the store had nothing he wanted to buy.

It sounds like he had the right reason. Some supermarkets don’t have basic items and it maybe the second or third supermarket he visited without success.

I've read other complaints about not finding cheese, as well. I don't know where you folks shop. But, decent cheese, such as Cheddar, Swiss, Muenster, Provolone, Brie, Gouda, Camembert, etc, is available at Kaldi (as I recommended for cookies, above), and at Seijo Ishii, Ikari, Yamaya, and even some Aeons.
The beer selection at Yamaya is pretty big, along with a big selection of imported wine and spirits.
As for steak, yeah, it's hard to find a thick one, generally. But, some markets carry USDA and/or Australian beef, in larger and/or thicker sizes than typical Japan cuts.
Finally, Costco, is the place to go for the biggest selection of all that stuff. Any expat planning on living here for any length of time needs to get a Costco membership, if you don't already have one from your home country. (Memberships from any country are accepted globally.) Cheese, Beer, Meat, Cookies, everything!

Yes, that’s deeply infuriating. I scoured the cookie aisle of my local supermarket yesterday for hours looking for a paraffin heater and some horseradish sauce, and all I could find were biscuits!

How about talk with the manager of the supermarket and ask him to order in some of the things he wants to buy? It's a win win for both. The supermarket will make money and he will be able to buy something he wants. No need to lose your temper. Think of a solution.

So he couldn't find what he liked in the store so he had to show his displeasure by kicking the glass door as a sign of scorn. Next time, just don't patronize the joint, OK? Go frequent another store, you have freedom of choice.

You need to find some new supermarkets. Or, better yet, find a Kaldi. Preferably a bigger one. Plenty of cookie choices. Mostly imported. They even have Pepperidge Farm and TimTams!

While I wouldn't get violent, it is frustrating that the cookie isle in ALL Japanese supermarkets have the exact same lame products.
