Man arrested for dropping 2-year-old baby out of hotel window

Police in Asahikawa, Hokkaido, said Wednesday they have arrested a man after a 2-year-old child was dropped from a hotel guestroom window.

According to police, the suspect, who has been identified as Tsuyoshi Mihara, 25, allegedly dropped the baby boy from a window onto the first floor roof 90 cm below on Feb 18, TV Asahi reported. The child was believe to be wearing only a diaper when he was dropped.

Police said the outside temperature was 9.9 degrees below freezing at the time. About 40 cm of snow had collected on the roof.

Upon hearing a child crying, a hotel employee looked out of the third floor window and witnessed the incident. After dropping the baby, Mihara pulled him back into the room, TV Asahi reported.

Police said that the boy was not seriously injured in the fall and that he has now been taken into care by the Asahikawa Child Guidance Clinic.

not...much... of a story... here now is there?

He could have been trying to go one better that "Tiger Dad" who forced his kid to walk barefoot in snow. Or perhaps he was listening to Michael Jackson and got carried away.

@ jumpultimatestars....

You have GOT to be KIDDING me...!!!! Anyone in such act is clearly with intent to hurt and endanger the welfare of a child. His actions, no matter how brief, is with motive and punishable by any law. I CAN'T believe YOU would even consider the thought of "consistency" here. Please!!!

Yea... dropping your son or step son out the window at any height naked in freezing conditions is sadistic. Every few months I read about a Japanese Dad/Man child throwing his kid or step kid out the window. I do recall last year one lad survived a 11 or 12 story drop into a tree...

Why did he do it...more details needed

Fricking insane!! Where was the mother? Why did he do it?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

i don't get it???

But why? Why would you do that? Usually there's some half baked excuse like "the baby was too noisy" or "I was stressed", or maybe even a /logical/ explanation, but I find it strange there isn't one printed here. Maybe there's more to the story. Regardless, really stupid and dangerous.

25 years old?? Way too stupid for his own good, no death penalty for being too stupid?? Who in the heck throws a baby out of a window in freezing cold weather?? Just crazy!! Poor little baby!!

OH this topic is filled with landmines and speculation. Drop? Throw? Put down? Very unclear. Many more details are needed to process this case.

I agree ... lacks details ... very open to speculative opinion.

But whatever the case, whether or not it was intentional, I would like to see this guy dropped onto a snow mound with only in his underwear then ask him how he feels.

Not condoning this at all but it does sound like it was only about a 1 meter drop to the 1st floor roof below. I mean... how could he then pull the kid back in the room if it were much more of a drop? Like I said, not condoning it at all... the guy is obviously an idiot that can't handle stress, but the headline makes it sound a bit worse.

Dropped? Put down? More info plz... Who in their real mind will take a 2 year child wearing only a diaper near an open window when the temperature is 9.9 degrees below freezing... Moron!!

Whatever the reason, I'm assuming the child is safe and warm now. (Happened on Feb 18?)

It's very fortunate the employee witnessed the incident and the child was rescued.

Was the man trying to be funny perhaps? If sane, he deserves a really good thumping. 3 guys in a room taking turns should do it.

I hope the police drop the father on his head.

Some of you clearly have misinterpretted this article. 90cm - 40cm of snow = 50 cm, which is roughly 1.5 feet. Only 1.5 feet! That means he likely just placed him there for whatever silly reason and then took him back when he started crying. Hardly reason to be arrested, let alone listed on Japan Today for. I agree he's stupid for making his child get super cold for no good reason (that clearly wasn't a pleasant feeling for the baby), but all it is is stupid. If he did stuff like this consistently though, then I'd consider it child abuse.

so let me get this straight, someone witnessed something called the police and they move in and take the kid away. was it recorded on video? can i just call the police and say so and so did this and they go for an arrest. highly doubt it. as many have said, where are the details?!?!

Thank goodness the baby is ok. Somebody needs to drop the jerk out of window, plane widow.

The fact he's done it once makes me consider it child abuse.

90cm drop to the roof. 40cm of snow on said roof. That means there was only 50cm between the bottom of the window and the snow. A 2-year old is how tall on average? This sounds less and less like a "drop" and more like a "put".

How long was the child out there? Not that long apparently unless the guy was holding him out the window for a while before he "dropped" him. Doesn't sound like the child was ever in danger of frostbite.

He must have enormously long arms to reach down an entire floor and pick the baby up again. 90cm long arms ? Seems somehow unlikely....but the image is creepy though.

90cms? Into 40cms 0f snow? = 50cm…My fish tank is bigger than that!! Give me a break!

Or perhaps he was listening to Michael Jackson and got carried away.

First thing that came to my mind.

Doubt anything will be done about it.

My guess it was the usual "I was frustrated because he wouldn't stop crying" excuse. Either way the kid should be taken away from the parents, or at least the father removed from the picture and charged with abuse.
