Police have arrested a 42-year-old man over the murder of his former work supervisor and the attempted murder of the man's wife before torching their house in Toyokawa, Aichi Prefecture.

Police said Yoshisuke Arai, 61, had his throat cut and his wife Hiroko, 59, was stabbed in the chest.

Fuji TV quoted police as saying that the suspect, identified as Tomoaki Kubo, used to work for Arai at a train car manufacturer until last June.

Police allege that Kubo, currently unemployed and with no fixed address, dressed as a deliveryman, forced his way into the Arais' home on the afternoon of March 4. He bound Mrs Arai in the upstairs bedroom and waited for her husband to return home. The woman told police that Kubo attacked her husband with a knife and then stabbed her. He set fire to the house early in the morning of March 5. Police said that Mrs Arai managed to get free and jumped from the second floor. The remains of Arai's body were found on the first floor after the fire was extinguished. Mrs Arai is n a stable condition, police said.

Kubo was arrested Tuesday night at a public bathhouse in Takamatsu. He has admitted to the charge and was quoted by police as saying he had a grudge against Arai, Fuji reported.

Damn, this sounds bad. No wonder he was a former employee. Seems like many idiots with a grudge in Japan can't contain their anger. Maybe they should grow the hell up. Or maybe Japan should pursue better mental health care...?

This, seriously, this.

So, how often do you read about this kind of crazy revenge in your home country? I'm from Australia and have probably read this kind of article three times in the last five years. I know of three similar incidents in japan in the last month although, the others involved families. Yeah, Japan is a relatively safe place to live, but nearly 30% of the adult population have been diagnosed with some sort of mental illness and 90% of those remain untreated. Just be very careful who you make angry. You never know! You just might cop the wrath of one of the 30%.

I see going postal has come to Japan.

Well, it's actually probably always been here, too.

I've had some pretty bad bosses, but only one who could have inspired any sort of violent revenge from otherwise reasonable people. (Fortunately none of my colleagues snapped). No reasonable person would attack that bully boss's family though. How horrifying.

Be very careful who you piss off in this country. many people have very little going on in their lives and are on the edge of snappng at the tiniest provocation

Not a Japan specific problem michael.
