Man arrested for fatally stabbing girlfriend in Aichi apartment

A 33-year-old unemployed man was arrested for murder on Wednesday, accused of stabbing his girlfriend in the apartment they shared in Hekinan City.

Police said Midori Kamimoto,30, called her mother just after 3 p.m., saying she thought her live-in partner, Kiyohito Watanabe, was going to kill her. Kamimoto’s mother rushed to the apartment and found her lying on a bed, bleeding from her abdomen and neck. She called for an ambulance and Kamimoto was rushed to hospital, but was pronounced dead shortly after, dying from severe blood loss.

Police said Kamimoto’s 4-year-old son was in the apartment at the time, but was not injured.

Police tracked down Watanabe later in the day in Kariya City, also of Aichi Prefecture, and arrested him for murder after he admitted to the stabbing. He told police that his girlfriend wanted to end the relationship, and so he killed her and intended to kill himself as well.

If Watanabe is charged on or after May 21, he may be tried by jury following the re-introduction of the jury system from that date.

Too much attachment. Very cowardly way of facing life by taking it away from somebody else. So insecure of himself that he does not think he can move on and find somebody else.

and so he killed her and intended to kill himself as well.

Don't they always! And unemployed to boot. The article does not comment on the relationship between the child and the man, however, you can guess.

Furthermore, the last little tidbit about the reintroduction of the jury system is interesting, just because you can see this case being prosecuted in the full glare of publicity. Just out of interest, with juries now being given a role in criminal cases, what measures are being put in place to ensure that grand-standing politicians don't short-circuit the whole jury system by shooting off their mouths. People like Ishihara and Hatoyama come to mind. Any comments?

At least the police caught him before he could top himself. Saved one life. Condolences to the poor woman's family.

Oh yeah, before he topped himself…ha-ha…Before the liberal intellect derelicts ruled and influenced the world of Japan, there were men of muscle and steel; nether of which are you or the killer that you are so happy that his life is safe. Enjoy the world you create while it last; is it really better, or a masquerade?

He loved her so much than he killed her. What a great love. He is another unemployed ROMEO, and his JULIET is now far away from him, for ever. Will jurors have any mercy on him or the will send him right to his Juliet?

@supercub That has been JT's credo ever since! Boulevard press at it's finest!

Poor woman! What a waste on usually good looking females!!

what a loser. Why men cannot take separation like men. Even a stupid woman like me understands the meaning of the words "go away" when men have the bravery to say them.

This loser appearently thought he could do what he pleased too. The reality isn't so romantic.

sure can, what kind of loving father (and maniacal lover) would leave a 4 year old alone with his dying mother.

poor grandma is probably in her mid 50s and gonna have to raise this kid.

Why, oh why, did she call her mom and not the police? Why are we women so dumb?

My heart goes out to the child that had to endure everything going on in that house. Also, I think it is a highly unintelligent question to ask nokomarie, why are woman so dumb? Do you think that maybe we need to walk in other people's shoes before we speak on there actions? This poor boy will not have his mother for "Haha no hi" or "omedetou" as Mother's Day is referred to in Japan. In any event, this story is just plain sad to read.

Michiko3, I asked why are We woman so dumb. I am a woman and a survivor of abuse. I never called the cops either. I think you need to read more carefully before spouting off like that. Yes, the story is sad.

This wasn't an act of love but of selfishness. The perpetrator considered his wife to be "his property" and as such HE would decide how her life would play out, not some divorce court. At least the child survived. Here in the United States usually, the child would have been killed along with the wife using the same justification (the child was "his property"). These kind of guys are warped in the worst way.

Fadamor- 100% agree. I believe that one has to be taught such behavior though, thus my point on Japanese culture. Of course to be clear, this type of thinking and treating of women like property is not singular to Japan. BTADT- My point is that your romanticism of "men of muscle and steel" is just a fallacy. The reality is that throughout Japanese history there has been an attitude of misogyny that is simply deplorable. Men of muscle and steel indeed. This attitude was most likely what this loser had when he decided to kill his girlfriend. I have no sympathy for this killer either.
