Ibaraki Prefectural Police have arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of murder after he fatally stabbed his 57-year-old mother-in-law at her home in Kasama City.

According to police, Tomoko Kotani was stabbed in the neck and face in the garden of her home at around around noon on Monday, Fuji TV reported. A blood-stained knife was left in the garden. Her daughter called 110 and Kotani was rushed to hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The daughter’s husband, Daichi Kodama, a company employee who lives apart from his wife in Kashiwa, Chiba Prefecture, initially fled the scene but was taken into custody around 6:30 p.m. Monday while walking along a street in Kasama City.

Police said Kodama has admitted to stabbing his mother-in-law but has so far given no motive.

…someone in the face indicates hatred for the victim…

And what indicates any other target area then, in your opinion? Still a rest of love or so? lol

Pretty graphic details but ‘details’ nonetheless for a JT “Crime” story. Still, always enough room for speculation: Perhaps another Japanese man that couldn’t handle the separation from and issues with his wife and therefore, struck out and removed the one person she loved more and will be forever haunted by her absence.

I read somewhere that stabbing / shooting someone in the face indicates hatred for the victim; the perp aims for that area to erase the existence of the victim via their most prominent features. If this is true then, well guess this guy didn't have the best relationship with his MiL.

Maybe he thought his MIL was behind his marital problems.

Another day another one. And this time both of them were relatively young. Too many people have anger management issues yet the jgov continue to turn a blind eye to it.

Its best not to care what Mother and Father in law think. Saves lives.

I am actually not surprised it doesnt happen more often here.

Me too, but with daughter-in-laws attacking mother-in-laws.

I've heard some horror stories of how the young brides are treated sometimes.

This country really has some issues with family members killing each other and the number of suicides. Very sad state of affairs that should be looked into and help offered to people so desperate they resort to this.
