Man arrested for forcibly kissing, groping woman

Police in Tokyo have arrested a 26-year-old man on suspicion of sexual assault after he forcibly kissed a woman and groped her breasts.

According to police, the assault occurred at around 1 a.m. on May 9 in Kita Ward. Fuji TV reported that the suspect, Yuichi Ikeda, called out to the woman, who is in her 20s, as she left JR Oji Station and suggested, “Why don’t we exchange contact information?” When the woman refused his offer, Ikeda followed her for 200 meters and pulled her behind a parked car on the grounds of an apartment building where he allegedly kissed and groped her.

Police said Ikeda was identified through street surveillance camera footage. He was quoted by police as saying he was drunk at the time and can’t recall a thing about the incident.

He was quoted by police as saying he was drunk at the time and can’t recall a thing about the incident.

Next time I hear this excuse used for criminal behavior I think I want to set up a firing squad.

Nice to see the suspect arrested.

"He was quoted by police as saying he was drunk at the time and can’t recall a thing about the incident."

Shocker!!!

16 ( +20 / -5 )

Why don’t we exchange contact information?

Men these days need to work on their pick-up line. And also learn to woo the lady instead of imposing their will on them.

15 ( +19 / -4 )

A lot of this fantasy porn in Japan, similar scenario but the woman should suddenly become submissive and willingly participate . Some morons can't understand that porn isn't reality. Lock him up for a year or so so he can think about it.

These kind of events better be dealt with strictly, even if the person is drunk, drugged or ill. Women's safety should always be top priority in any nation.

Women's safety should always be top priority in any nation.

EVERYONE's safety, and first should be children.....,.

He was quoted by police as saying he was drunk at the time and can’t recall a thing about the incident.

In civilized countries, since he chose to become drunk, this is no defense.

9 ( +12 / -3 )

As I've said before, being drunk should not be an excuse. It should be part of the offense!

8 ( +14 / -5 )

While I was reading the article, I was betting that the drunk-don't-remember excuse was going to be used. I was right.

Next time I hear this excuse used for criminal behavior I think I want to set up a firing squad.

Can I be on it??

Next you'll be suggesting women have thoughts and feelings of their own and sometimes want something other than just being desirable to men.

How did the police identify him through street surveillance camera footage? Did the cops know him personally?

Did you see when the event happened? He was arrested this week. I think it's fair to assume that the police were actually investigating the crime in the interim. Local convenience store staff or station staff would be shown his picture. Stations at night are well lit and have cameras everywhere. I think the woman probably identified him from CCTV video from the station or street cameras and then it's just good police work. You must have quite a limp carrying that huge chip around.

What we both said need not be contradictory.

"I was drunk at the time and can’t recall a thing about the incident."

"famous Japanese saying".

3 ( +5 / -2 )

As soon as I read that the incident happened around 1am, I automatically knew the excuse would be "I was drunk, I don't remember anything".

Oh, he remembers. The only time you don't remember much is when you are drunk and you pass out. Every time this excuse is heard, they should just double the punishment.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

It's good that this incident was reported and the suspect got arrested. I can't help but imagine how many incidents like this might go unreported

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Glad to see she reported and that he was arrested.

I had to laugh because this sounded similar to what female politicians say they experience from their colleagues. This man gets arrested. The poloticians? Nothing.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Pathetic little creep.

2 ( +5 / -2 )

Street video surveillance camera take moving object like movie. Colored, too.

Drrunkexcuse will cause more criminal charge now. First breath test. Then if suspect is found less than drunk level perjury charge that is heavier than simple drunk. Best in Japan is don'copy pervert's action.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Glad they got him. These creeps that constantly harass women at stations need to be ARRESTED. Yes, that goes for the Yaks that try to coerce young women into the hostess (and god knows what else) business. Sometimes there are three or four of them at the same exit!

Man, Japan has some serious societal problems...

There is one 100 meters from my house, I guarantee you the staff has no idea who I am or where I live. And so it should be by the way.

If you are a foreigner there is no way you can guarantee what you wrote here.

If you go to that convenience store frequently and most of us do, I can guarantee the staff could pick your face out of a line up of photos and say you use that store. I know my local cobini staff know who I am, not my name but they know my face. Now if I pay my phone bill by conbini payment, BINGO, again the cops have my details Lets assume he uses the station automatic gates, well the data from his electronic pass is logged, another way to track him down.

Simply amazing that "I was drunk" absolves you of all responsibility.

Except it doesn't. It's simply the most obvious way to avoid confessing to the cops. Not the best way, but the first most people think of.

The relevance in a trial is two-fold. On the plus side, the judge might see the crime as a one-time event rather than the defendant's usual pattern of behavior. So the sentence might be lighter.

On the other hand, once you have said you were too drunk to remember, you are no longer able to plausibly deny anything you are accused of. If the victim exaggerates what happened, it's her word against his - and he (by his own admission) can't remember what he did. So he is more likely to be convicted of the most serious charges.

On balance, not a good strategy. I would imagine the prosecutors love that defence, because instead of "he said, she said" they have "she said, and he doesn't remember." Much easier.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

he was drunk at the time and can’t recall a thing about the incident.

I am starting to believe that this excuse is actually acceptable in Japanese courts ...especially if the suspect is Japanese. Anyone else will most likely be given additional jail time for even thinking of making such a claim!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

How did the police identify him through street surveillance camera footage? Did the cops know him personally? It's 1am in the morning, are they to tell us they have such high resolution cameras on the streets that they can use face recognition software to match his mug to a driver's license photo? I call a total bull on that.

0 ( +4 / -5 )

what an excuse, hope police is not buying that

Men these days need to work on their pick-up line. And also learn to woo the lady instead of imposing their will on them.

This makes me wonder if they have any sort of businesses into confidence-building training or even "wingman" services for men here in Japan. I'd imagine there would be a market for that in this society.

"I'm drunk and can't remember" is the equivalent to "yes, I did it." Either you did or you didn't.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

And again, the very famous "I'm drunk and I didn't recall anything" excuse.. Pathetic

0 ( +1 / -1 )

"Why don't we exchange contact information."

This line is so weak. I know high school students who can do far better.

"How come only this kind of news attract so many comments? Very suspicious..."

Because many people do not believe the story.

Police said Ikeda was identified through street surveillance camera footage.

But the Japanese TV news said that he was identified from "BODILY FLUID" left at the scene...

Moderator: That was another case in Tokyo's Nerima Ward.

The "drunk" excuse can be easily corroborated by the woman, as to whether his breath had the scent of liquor. If the woman says "yes" to his claim, then he gets a light sentence, but a punishment nonetheless. If the woman says "no" to his claim, he gets a heavier sentence. I would have to hope for the latter, he needs a heavier sentence, because the rate at which sexual harrassment is skyrocketing in Japan is indeed frightening. People spend hours on porn with the most unrealistic of everyday scenarios and choose to practise them - as such, many lonely Japanese men come off as being increasingly perverse and simply stack raving mad. Japanese men ought to spend more time in getting into serious relationships and making more babies for the economy, instead of seeing a woman and illegally kiss-groping her; In the uncivilized world, the masses would agitate for his immediate castration for such an act.

Kapuna Could be the judge been there, done that and can relate.

So the judges final decision is "I will drink to that"

Simply amazing that "I was drunk" absolves you of all responsibility.

If you say "I was drunk" you should be auto-convicted. If you were irresponsible enough to get so drunk that you cant remember what you did, then you should be held responsible for whatever it is you did.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

I was too drunk and can't remember defense should give the maximum penalty, full stop!! How about a drunk driver who kills? I was too drunk and can't remember shouldn't get you less time than if you weren't drunk.

pulled her behind a parked car on the grounds of an apartment building where he allegedly kissed and groped her.

That's NOT the way to woo women. For starters, be sober.

Man, Japan has some serious societal problems...

Yeah, the women and young girls are always targets. If he would've done that to some hot western women, he prob would've got kneed in the nuts and punched a couple times.

Sherlock, having someone's picture and connecting a name and address to it are two different things. What does a local convenience store or station has to do with anything? There is one 100 meters from my house, I guarantee you the staff has no idea who I am or where I live. And so it should be by the way.

Who talks to convenience store staff anyway? The same thing regarding station staff.

Offer to get her a "Starbucks"! Offer to listen to her talk about whatever! In the conversation, talk about "her"!

To posters giving the man advice, as though he was just approaching her wrongly - he shouldn't have been approaching her at all. Men do not have the right to approach a random woman just because they find her attractive.

How about you do not approach a woman you don't know while she is going about her life - going to work, heading home, shopping?

How about you don't assume every woman is waiting to be approached and wants a man to tell her he finds her attractive?

How about you keep the hell away unless you are at a social gathering or in a situation where it is normal behaviour to start chatting?

Offer to get her a "Starbucks"! Offer to listen to her talk about whatever! In the conversation, talk about "her"! Simply following her 200 meters and force kissing her might not be the best way to gain the "right kind of attention". The poor woman! And the poor guy that let "alcohol" take him on such an adventure! Then again, she could have just "skirted around him" by giving him the phone number of some other dude... drunk people can be easy to play! A few years back a drunk dude was harassing my wife. He was truly drunk and I decided to have some fun with him. I convinced him that he needed to wake up all my neighbors and have them all check to make sure that their "fire alarms" were "functional". The fun lasted for about thirty minutes before someone called the cops on him! He kept screaming that is wasn't his fault if the "place burned down"!
