An unemployed 49-year-old man has been arrested on charges of abandoning the bodies of his elderly parents at the family’s house in Sano, Tochigi Prefecture.
According to police, Yoshikazu Kojima turned himself to the police at around 3:40 a.m. Sunday, saying that the bodies of his elderly parents who had passed away from natural causes some time ago, were still at their home, Fuji TV reported. When police arrived at the house, they found the body of Kojima’s 79-year-old father Kazuo covered with a futon and another skeletonized body, presumably that of his mother, also covered with a futon, in the living room of the house.
Police quoted Kojima as saying his father died of illness last November and that his mother died of natural causes in March. Authorities believe that Kojima may have been illegally receiving his parents’ pensions since their deaths.

I doubt this guy classifies as lazy; he lived with his parents dead/skeletonized body in the living room for several months, I assume he has serious mental issues

Even though I do agree that is partly a result of individual laziness, I also think there are other factors at work. I think he liked those free checks, but probably, he was also worried about that inheritance tax and legal issues. We just had an article posted about unclaimed land a couple of days ago. The family is around, but they don't legally claim it to avoid those costs. If this man didn't work or doesn't have a decent salary with few benefits, with that high tax, it might be theoretically possible to actually go into debt from his inheritance. For example, the parents only had the house and land to leave him. He might have to pay a large sum for inheriting it. Not to mention, funeral arrangements are quite expensive here. He would have to pay for two of them within a short period of time.
I don't condone what he did, but I can understand why some people do it. I suggest giving the inheritance before they pass on. For instance, sell the inheritance to them for a really cheap price like sen yen with legal paperwork. It wouldn't be an inheritance so no tax!

'May' have been collecting their pensions? You can bet your bollocks he was. I think the only reason he turned himself in was because he couldn't live with the stench of two rotting bodies.

Of his numerous offenses, I think allowing or making his poor father live in the home with the corpse of his mother is one of the worst. Hopefully he wasn't aware of his condition or fate.

Did he have a permanently blocked nose or something? Although November, when the father died, is a cool month and then winter comes along. Then his mother dies in March which is still cool enough. Sounds like he was smart enough to know that spring his here and summer is just around the corner.

What a lazy slug to desecrate his parents bodies like that because he's too damn lazy to go get a job I hope he spends a long time behind bars. Investigate thoroughly to see if he was involved in their deaths too

Yeah he has mental issues, it's called laziness. He was sitting on his butt collecting two pensions for several months. Maybe he had an unexplained fear of breaking a sweat.
