Police on Monday arrested a man for allegedly hitting an 11-year-old boy with an iron bar on a street. According to police, the suspect, identified as Kenji Urushibara, 32, approached the boy on the sidewalk around 5 p.m. and suddenly hit him on the arms and legs with a 1.4-meter-long iron bar.

The boy suffered minor injuries such as abrasions and bruises. A passerby alerted police who rushed to the scene and apprehended the man. According to police, Urushibara stated that he assaulted the boy because the boy teased him, yet he was unacquainted with the victim.

I don't think this craziness is from the heat or water, it's money! As a normal person I can't feel the effect of the economy but the people here, thinking about losing it's status and money drives them crazy! The guy with the iron bar wasn't normal in the first place! Probably a chipira trying to show how strong he is by hitting someone smaller than he is! I am 192cm 118klg of lean muscle! if I were to say the same thing to the same guy nothing would happen. Praying on the weak and helpless is just something thhat will never stop in Japan!

Would anybody care to hypothesize why so many Jp adults have serious mental illnesses? 24% as a matter of fact. School? Work? Society? All the above?

They basically have no outpatient treatment plans in Japan for those with mental disorders. Japanese mental health care is about 60 years behind that of other developed nations.

Sorry - but a 1.4 meter iron bar breaks bones when used to hit - it does not cause minor bruises. My guess is that it was a thin piece of reinforcing iron, or maybe a garden stake, etc. My 1.4 meter iron bars are better than an inch thick, are used to pries rocks from the ground, etc. – and if used as a weapon could easily kill. I think that they have used “bar” a bit too loosely.

Hope the kid is alright and is given the chance to beat this nut around the arms and legs with the same pole. An bruise for a bruise.

It is possible that boy teased him, but this is not an excuse to use iron bar. Lock him up and use the same iron bar on him and break his leggs, don't hit him on the head, because than he wouldn't be able to collect his medication from judge.
