Police in Chikusei City, Ibaraki Prefecture, have arrested a 27-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder after he drove his car into six people early Sunday.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 12:30 a.m. after the suspect got into an argument with a group of men and women at a karaoke lounge, Sankei Shimbun reported.

Police said Kyohei Nakano, a construction worker from Sakuragawa City in Ibaraki Prefecture, drove his vehicle down a sidewalk, hitting six people aged between 22 and 26. A 26-year-old woman was seriously injured and suffered a fracture to her left leg, while the remaining five victims sustained minor injuries.

Police said that two of the group were friends of Nakano, and the remaining four were part of a separate group of nine friends. Nakano and three friends and the other group got into a heated argument at the karaoke lounge and continued quarreling outside the building, before Nakano got into his car.

Police did not say what the argument was about and said Nakano has denied any intent to kill.

Nagano has denied any intent to kill.

What was his thinking then? He thought that like in a movie people are hit with a car but everyone then would stand up and run?

"Nagano has denied any intent to kill."

Who cares what he denies? He ran down a bunch of people in his car in a row about karaoke. These people need to learn there are consequences for their snapping. I'm glad they are charging him with attempted murder, and hope he faces six counts of it.

let me guess, his friends laughed at him when he tried to sing a cheesy akb48 song , and then all hell broke loose.

Where is getting his ideas from?

Now this is a deliberate thought out crime and the culprit may stay behind the bars for a 10 or 20 years, just to make sure this does not happen again.

Pent up anger is a major downside of fake etiquette.

Time to either ban karaoke or teach children to grow up.

Might be safer playing online karaoke. For some people.

Construction worker and friends go out drinking on Sat and go on to karaoke.

why did he even have his car nearby? And apparently the group he attacked with his lethal weapon(car) included his friends who were still arguing. Who needs enemies with friends like that?

Hasn't he seen any recent news re similar terrorist attacks? What did he imagine might be the outcome?

no cure for stupidity!

Hmmm I wonder if pride and booze had anything to do with it....

This a good example of burying the lead. Why did the author wait until the end to mention that the target of his wrath were the same friends he was arguing with?

Copying the trend.

Using a car as a deadly weapon is an extremely serious offence where I come from and carries an extremely long jail term upwards of five years for perpetrators. This idiot is lucky he didn't kill anybody he would be facing many years in jail. However, I have no doubt this loser will only receive a light sentence and most likely without any jail time at all.
