Tochigi prefectural police have arrested a 37-year-old unemployed man on suspicion of abducting a 14-year-old girl after the two became acquainted on a members-only social networking site (SNS).
According to police, Jun Higuchi, a resident of Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture, abducted the girl, who lives in northern Tochigi Prefecture, on Tuesday, despite knowing she was a minor, Sankei Shimbun reported. Higuchi then drove her to Maebashi City and kept her confined in his car.
The girl’s father contacted police around 7:45 a.m. on Tuesday to report that his daughter appeared to have run away. A note found at the household read, “I don’t want to be at home.”
Police found the two inside a vehicle parked at a home improvement store in Maebashi at around 2:10 p.m. on Wednesday. The teen was placed into protective custody and was not harmed, police said.

Using the internet to groom minors is a very serious offense here in Australia and carries a 7-10 year jail term. Perhaps Japan needs to upgrade its penalties for these rock spiders in an attempt to deter them.

Have you even read it? For her it’s even better to search for a ‘kidnapper’ than to live any one more day longer at home together with a father (or family) she could not even chose and must obviously be much worse than any kidnapper could be. And don’t tell me that there’s governmental help or institutions for such young people where she could grow up safer or with more chances. There you are even more pushed to the edge and abused or harassed than by any kidnapper of which quite a percentage just want to offer temporary help and not what you might think.

”Was she not there at her own volition?” Irrelevant question since she is a 14-year-old minor who left home without parental consent. The “temporary help” post is absurd and troubling—trying to characterize kidnapping a minor as somehow “helpful” and legal is wishful thinking at best.
Seems like some folks are trying to project dark fantasies, instead of acknowledging reality and what is lawful regarding minors.

Kansai Ten, I have a 14 year old at home. My child BTW. To not let him do what he chooses, to a large extent, is considered an impingement on his freedom. You can't win easily...

Trapped—as a former secondary school teacher, I empathize with your status as a teen parent. Yet the personal freedoms of a minor take a backseat to what local and regional laws allow minors to do. That includes curfews, interactions with adult strangers online or in person, etc. (Whether police choose to enforce those laws is another matter.).
If personal freedoms take precedent, then at least they should be aware of what is waiting for them out there by sharing these kind of real life situations. I know that in many cases, they need to hear it from someone other than their parents.
