Police in Sapporo have arrested an unemployed 49-year-old man on suspicion of killing his 77-year-old father with whom he lived.
According to police, the victim was found dead in his apartment in Teine Ward by his 84-year-old wife when she returned home at around 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Sankei Shimbun reported that the couple's son -- who had gone missing -- was picked up 9 a.m. Sunday, while driving in nearby Tobetsu town.
Police said the man has confessed to killing his father by violently kicking and hitting him on Saturday afternoon. There were also strangulation marks on the victim's neck. The suspect was quoted as saying that he got tired of his father berating him.
Meanwhile, local media reported that in early June, the victim had consulted with police, complaining that his son -- who had been under a doctor's care for some time -- had been beating him.

Beating your elderly father, and under a doctor's care for some time. Sounds like mental illness was likely.

Logical solution for a 49 year old, move out, NOT murder. Sad way to repay one who gave you life. RIP dad.

Why are they always pointing out that the person is unemployed? Does that automatically make them crazy?
