Police in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture, said Tuesday they have arrested a 54-year-old man on suspicion of killing his 85-year-old mother.
According to police, Tetsuya Takeda, a local association staff member, has admitted to strangling his mother Mitsuko at their home in Takatsu Ward at around 10 a.m. Monday, Fuji TV reported.
At 10:40 a.m., Takeda went to a nearby police station and turned himself in, saying he had killed his mother. Police went to the home and found Mitsuko unconscious. She was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Police said Takeda has not yet given a motive for killing his mother.

Well it was either I was tired of taking care of her or they got into an argument over money because he's just mooching off of her pension

Or maybe, just maybe, it was one of an infinite number of other reasons.

There is something very very wrong with the way the baby boomers generation (born between 1946 and 1964) was brought up by their parents. Were the parents too busy building fame and fortune that they forgot that love and time is more important than tangible things?
Is this Japan alone? In my country, this is a rarest of rare circumstance. My country is not as rich as Japan but hey, we are happy people and we LOVE our family. Money cannot buy love and harmony.
Do the hustle
It’s hard to comprehend why this happens so often in Japan. What is wrong with the family unit that makes people kill their parents, especially their mother, the one who brought them into the world and raised them? Is it a problem with the way the parents raised them? Is it a problem with the way the child grew up? Or, is it a problem with the society in general. I’m the same age as this joker and I can adamantly state that I have never even considered causing any harm to either of my parents. One would have to be some kind of extremely ungrateful brat to even consider it. They are your parents FFS!

Well it’s nothing particular to japan, and with a population of 130 million, family murders happen. There isn’t any group of 130 million people anywhere in the world that is free of family murders.
Do the hustle
That may be so, but find another group of 130 million people where family murders happen every day.
Also, just to remind you, this discussion board is about Japanese news. Comments referring to or comparing with other countries are irrelevant and off topic.
Strangerland
Ok, pick any group of 130 million people.
Done.

Strangerland is absolutely right.
In Japan this is news... in many other countries this even wouldn't be as murders happen by the dozens....
