Police in Osaka on Tuesday arrested a 61-year-old man on suspicion of killing his 90-year-old father.
Police said Hirotsugu Omori, a barber, has admitted to the allegation and quoted him as saying he was worn out from looking after his father and had planned to kill him, NHK reported.
According to police, Omori strangled his father Kazutami with a rope as he sat in a chair in the barber shop which is on the first floor of their home in Minato Ward at around midnight Monday. He called 119 at around 4:20 a.m. and said his father was dead.
Police said Kazutami was taken to hospital but pronounced dead on arrival.

Very sad story.

Ironically this story follows another in the articles above that report that thousands of elderly people die alone. This is a case that shows that sometimes, perhaps, dying alone is not so bad. This fellow could have reached out for help, at least probably, rather than to do what he did. Rather a sad story, to say the very least.

The poor elderly father, to have to go out like that. May he rest in peace. There are always other ways, other things a person can do instead of murder the person in their care, murder a family member. I have no sympathy for the son here. Care-taking is a job that takes a physical and emotional toll on you, yes -- but even thinking murder could be the answer instead of getting help is just unacceptable.

The Japanese state washing its hands of the welfare of retired workers must also bear responsibility for this tragedy. This is the unacceptable face of capitalist Wa.

The problem is there is no help for the elderly in Japan. This is a story read often in the media here where siblings are "worn out from taking care" of parents. These elderly work and pay taxes for 50 plus years only for the government here the laugh at them and spend their tax money on military equipment that are not needed and to donate money to wars that Japan has no involvement in. I like Japan but hate how the government here ignore and walk away from the elderly
