Man arrested for killing woman after fireworks date

Police in Fussa, Tokyo, said Monday they have arrested a 24-year-old man over the murder of a woman with whom he went on a date to watch fireworks.

According to police, Takumi Izawa is accused of strangling to death Aika Miyata, 22, at his apartment on Saturday night. Fuji TV reported that Izawa and Miyata had become acquaintances online and arranged to go and see the fireworks display together. After the fireworks festival, the two returned to Izawa's apartment where he allegedly strangled Miyata.

Police said that Izawa turned himself in at a police station on Sunday, and confessed to killing Miyata. Izawa was quoted as saying that he lost his temper after a heated argument with Miyata.

ok, the guy is a total eff up, but why in the world would you go back to a guyy's apartment on a first date?!?! and especially someone that you met online.

Well she joins the long list of women being regularly murdered by men in this country.

What a waste, some people just come to kill someone so easily and of course we get again the usual losing temper reason. Because apparently in the mind of this sick personage, "losing temper" is an absolutely valid reason to kill a 22 years old woman who had her life before her.... What a society.

We don't what the argument was that led to this happening was, but we can probably surmise why they were going back to the apartment.

As I read this article, I was reminded of the question that was posed on JT in the last few weeks: things not to do on a first date.

I mention that here not to try to introduce dark humour, but, rather, to highlight the risks associated with being alone with someone in private that you have just met. I won't speculate on the original reason the woman agreed to go to the man's apartment, nor will I speculate on the reason for the heated argument.

What I do know is that the poor woman made a choice that put herself in harm's way. Make no mistake, she is not to blame, the monster who killed her is fully to blame. It is just a reminder that, in these days, extra care and vigilance is required. Particularly for young women, I think.

RIP, Miyata-san. Deep sorrow for you and your family.

Don't forget we only have his version of events to go on. He probbly invited her back to his place thinking he was going to get some extra curlie, and when she refused he blew his lid - pretty much like L. A. Hawker's murderer.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Whoa, whoa, whoa. While going back to man's or a woman's apartment on the first date isn't recommended, you can't somehow pin this decision as to why the woman was murdered. We have no idea what happened before that and if she had said no, and if he was intent on murder, he might've killed her or snapped regardless where they were.

Not everyone you meet online is a psycho. Someone you meet through work or school or friends could have done the same horrific thing. This poor woman just happened to meet this disgusting, despicable human being, and there's no way she could have seen this coming.

I'm sorry she's gone and my condolences to her family and friends.

Attention ladies; Breaking up with a Japanese guy is best done over the phone and from a secret location.

Obvious reason? Not such unusual behaviour, is it?

Could we please stop with this? What? It's her fault now?

We are not savage, I still hope that people can still meet each other even having previously only be in contact indirectly online without anyone ending dead.

The problem is not the woman going to a guy apartment, we wouldn't say that a guy shouldn't go to a girl apartment on first date, would we? No the problem is the intolerable violence towards women. There is no reason that a women should risk her life because she decided (for which she has all rights to do so without being judged) to visit someone's apartment, being the one of a man or not.

The real shame here is that there is way too much violence towards women, and that must stop. Blaming her for going to his place on first date is not going to help women's cause. Really not.

why in the world would you go back to a guyy's apartment on a first date?!?!

The article doesn't say it was the first date. But ignoring that, why not? It happens all the time without incident. Getting murdered literally almost never happens.

Well she joins the long list of women being regularly murdered by men in this country.

You mean in this world. This isn't a Japan-specific thing.

We don't what the argument was that led to this happening was, but we can probably surmise why they were going back to the apartment.

Well, there's a good possibility that the reasons they were going back for weren't the same, which is what led to this outcome.

No it's not of course Japan specific, but Japan likes to call itself an ultra civilized country with the perfect social model. However I do observe that in terms of violence against women (and the lack of equal rights given to them) Japan is closer to India than Europe for example.

Really? Where?

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

Really? Where?

Here he goes again with his usual crap. As an example just go to have a look at the pamphlet Japan came up with to explain to the population the Hague Treaty on Child Abductions, you should find what you are looking for.

Speculation, speculation, it easily could be that the young 22 was trying to charge the guy for the date and escalated to the outburst, JT does it again by leaving out too many parts of the story to entice its readers

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Seems perfectly normakl to me to end up atr someone's aprtment on a first date. Far less normal is ending up dead on a first date. don't have stats to hand but i would be pretty sure that there is far less liklihood of someone getting robbed or raped or murdered here than in many other "ciivilised" countries. Uk and US for two.....

There's nothing better than Internet-Comment Section-CSI.

Of coarse some of you are ASSUMING she went back to the wacko's apartment willingly or not under false pretenses. And you all know what happens when you ASS U ME......

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

maybe the guy was hoping for some sparks to fly,and maybe a "mutual explosion" back at his apartment.

A Japanese girl will only enter a guys place if she is willing to have sex, even on the first date.

Might've been true back in 1959.

moushuwake gozaimasen is enough to walk away with such crimes.why?because you have to commit two or murders to get a DEATH SENTENCE.Can you believe that?

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

reason what reason? is any reason stands against the murder of an innocent human being? what happened with this horrible act is that a young girl lost her life and the news of the murder spread sadness and doubts.

another question? why this man went so far during the argument, supposedly they were on the date, so things were looking normal.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

However I do observe that in terms of violence against women (and the lack of equal rights given to them) Japan is closer to India than Europe for example.

OK, sure.

From a first date to a murder. Well that escalated quickly.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

I would prefer the guy to be put in a cell, with white walls made of bulletproof plexiglass with fluorescent lights. A few weeks and then rehabilitation.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Izawa was quoted as saying that he lost his temper after a heated argument with Miyata.

Wondering what could've caused such a heated argument. Did she fend off his advances? Damaged his pride someway? Some japanese guys have very rigid complexes on those issues.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

@ Anders.... OK.... so until Japan reaches the homicide rate of that seen in the USA or the UK, are you saying we shouldn't comment? In addition do you actually think that Americans and Brits don't know that their respective countries have higher crime rates? You really need to do a reality check. You made no point whatsoever.

Show me ONE woman who was regularly murdered. Are you suggesting there are zombie-women in Japan?

2 ( +4 / -2 )

@vernie. Yeah really. . . Ordinarily it takes 5-6 yrs past the initial honeymoon before couples start murdering each other. This was quick.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Sub Judice, and totally unacceptable, releasing information into the public domain to influence opinion, suppositio terminorum is not justice, with or without a confession.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

@ Dan... you tried to be cute... but the difference between the plural "women", and your attempt at humor I guess "woman", is singularly off the mark.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

If we are gunna go all men are evil and killing women left right and centre then let's look at the more despicable women killing, abusing and starving children!! Which act is most evil?!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Well she joins the long list of women being regularly murdered by men in this country.

Long list? I thought one could only get murdered once? And btw, if you think that Japan has a penchant for murdering women you really need to broaden your news sources and find out what's going on in the rest of the world.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

why in the world would you go back to a guyy's apartment on a first date?!?!

Why even go on a first date considering the one in a million chance you might get murdered in an alley way, or your own car, or his car, or hit by a bus on the way there?

Do the words "psycho killer" appear on the foreheads of men that women should stay away from, but only the second date?

I suppose we could also ask, why get married, even after the 50th date, knowing full well most murdered women died at the hands of the spouses or ex-spouses?

Why live life at all? Something bad could happen!

No, no it's more that actually you can't read properly."

I cant understand why a woman would follow someone home after a date with someone you meet online. Women need to do more due diligence.

I cant understand why a woman would follow someone home after a date with someone you meet online.

To look at pictures, to watch a movie, to have a drink, to have sex, to make out, to play video games, to talk and so on and so on. There are lots of reasons.

In the old days they would meet you at a bar or a church picnic....then take you home and kill you. Guess what? There is no inherent danger to the internet!

what are you on about? your statements are false equivalences. they have nothing to do with putting yourself in a dangerous situation. but the sound of your own typing must be nice.

Seems to me you can't read properly, this sentence suggests the "zombie" theory.

She joins the long the of women, who have been murdered, by men in the country. Something that happens quite regularly.

Daito_hak is either a feminist woman or a mangina. Let me break it down really simply for you:

Yes, it is unfortunate what happend, and no, I do not defend this psycho's actions for hurting/killing anyone, man or woman.

HOWEVER man or woman, you have to take the proper precautions and be repsonsible for your actions. Going to an unknown persons house after meeting them 1 time is neither cautious or responsible. If I walked down a dark street in the ghetto by myself at 2am, I would be a victim, yet everyone would ask "wtf were you doing there at 2am by yourself?"

Take another example:

You leave the door unlocked at your house and the door ajar. 3 hours later when you come home all your money and valuables are gone. You are the victim, but YOU didnt take the proper precautions or be responsible.

There are psychos and idiots out there, and psychos will be psychos. You can either be dumb and expect it wont happen to you because you are a woman, or you can live in the real world and be careful, knowing that anyone around you can be that psycho.... most arent, but they are out there.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Going to an unknown persons house after meeting them 1 time is neither cautious or responsible.

It happens every day, hundreds, if not thousands of times, without incident. As others have mentioned, if you are you going to live your life in fear of any thing that may potentially have a bad outcome, you'd need to stay at home and just hope an airplane doesn't fall out of the sky onto you.

WOW! Did he just want to kill her or love her?

Sherman at Jul. 27, 2015 - 08:22PM JST A Japanese girl will only enter a guys place if she is willing to have sex, even on the first date.

Where the F did you get this from? Anime? I've had lots of girls over my house as friends, I've even slept over my 23 year old friends house in Osaka the first time I met her. I stayed a week....

Girls are not all so simple, that "visiting a home" means slappy slappy.

Poor girl probably went there for 1 of the millions of possible reasons, hell it could have been to water yellow watermellons that were growing upside down while listenening to the beetles!

Argument wether it is time to goto 'Love motel' after fireworks ? And she said a 'fatal' NO?
