Man arrested for kissing sleeping woman on train

A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of committing an indecent act after he kissed a woman who was sleeping on a train in September.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 2 p.m. in the afternoon aboard a train heading to Kansai Airport from Kyobashi Station in Osaka, Sankei Shimbun reported.

The rear half of the train was bound for Wakayama, and the train halted at Hineno Station for two minutes for the train to detach. A woman in her 20s, who was sitting in the front of the train, was sleeping when Takahiro Ueda kissed her. The woman woke up, but Ueda managed to escape to the rear, where he boarded the train heading to Wakayama.

Security footage from that day revealed a man running on the platform, which allowed police to determine the suspect’s identity. Ueda was arrested on Monday.

Police said that just before Ueda kissed the woman, he was seen by other passengers walking through carriages. It is believed he was searching for someone to kiss.

After his arrest, police quoted Ueda as saying: “I don’t want to talk about the incident right now.”

I know that train and if you miss the announcement and which cars to be on, you lose a lot of time trying to get to the airport. He planned it well for his perverted scheme.

It seems this young man would fit in well with U.S. politicians and those in Hollywood.

I'm not sure "indecent act" is the best description of what happened here. Unwanted, sure. Gross, most likely. Calling it indecent makes it sound like the kiss itself is a bad thing.

This bit of news just made me chuckle and people at the office are giving me funny looks.

His comment is a winner.  not sure why the satsu issue these quotes when they are so meaningless.

It's an assault in the same way that groping a woman's breast or patting her bum is assault. And yes, of course it's indecent assault.

It is a bad thing. What would you call it?

Sorry. I wasn't clear. It makes a kiss sound like a bad thing.

It is. When consent was not given.

Unwanted, sure. Gross, most likely

A work call in the middle of the night is unwanted. Runny nose is gross. Something people do that violate the sense of privacy and might as well objectify you and warrant an arrest is definitely, if not more, indecent.

I hope sleeping beauty wasn't too traumatized by that ordeal.

That would depend entirely upon where she was kissed.

A woman was assaulted by a man, whilst she was sleeping. How is that not indecent?

4 ( +11 / -7 )

If he's rich or powerful, he could get away with it

Nobody would believe the woman

Well, if you deceive yourself into believing that sexual assault isn't possible if you really really want to do it, then that's one way to make it stop being indecent. I mean only to you of course, to the rest of the world it's still indecent af. But self-delusion is a powerful tool for imagining it to be acceptable to prey upon others when one wishes they could be the predator.

Kids, don't do drugs. And in this case, don't watch porn everyday.

A sexual predator who obviously planned to assault a women. Lock him up.

So what's next? Saying something somebody doesn't like becomes verbal assault, or depending on my wording, indecent assault?

This isn't lighthearted or funny in my opinion. If he hadn't been caught, it's possible that he would have kept pushing the boundaries of his fantasy until he eventually raped some woman.

Your question implies there is a "next" that leads from this case to your proposed hypothetical, but there is no logical progression between them. "Indecent assault" simply means it was a non-consensual sexual action. We include the word 'indecent' because to simply say 'assault' would sound like he was intentionally trying to injure her and to say 'sexual assault' would imply he touched more intimate parts of her body. Jurisdictions often use the same term for a person who exposes themselves to an unwilling viewer. There is no creeping progression here.

But these feminized, guilt-ridden liberals want to gather all of the male behaviors, regardless if it's bad behavior or good behavior, and put them in a box labled predator, rapist, assaulter, pig, patriarch, whatever.

That didn't happen.

So when a man actually does something reprehensible, these liberals, being already primed, say, no wonder, he's a male.

Neither did that.

Seriously, you might try reading the words that are actually written in the thread, rather than just making up what would be more convenient for your agenda.

Just another cowardly creep getting his jollies on the defenseless. Put him on the sex offender's list. Oh, hang on! Japan doesn't have one, does it? I guess it would be an extremely long list and very difficult to maintain.

Sounds like a lonely and disturbed individual. While this is completly unacceptable behviour, I hope that he can get psychiatric treatment.

He must have been under too much stress at work, or can't remember, or (insert BS excuse)

This guy could have some disease of the mouth that could have been transmitted to this woman.

Disgusting. Who here finds this in any way acceptable?

Is this the new version of " I was drunk and don't remember!"?

We have a serial kisser on the loose now?
