Police in Funabashi, Chiba Prefecture, have arrested a 52 year-old man for making more than 5,000 silent calls to 119. The suspect, identified as Atsuhiko Fuse, a company employee, has been charged with obstruction of business, Yahoo News reported.

According to police, Fuse made the calls between Feb 6 and March 30. He repeatedly dialed the Funabashi City fire department and then remained silent on the line.

Police quoted Fuse as saying he got irritated after an ambulance got in front of him while he was driving one day.

That's what they are suppose to do...they are emergency vehicles!!

Fuse made the calls between Feb 6 and March 30

What a long grudge to carry. Thats like an average of 90 calls per day

What a jerk. Too many people think they are the center of the universe. Nope, not even close.

So, have they made an appointment for his psych evaluation? I think this guy is not playing with a full deck.

Why did it take them so long to catch him? Do they not have caller id?

Sounds like Fuse has a short fuse.

How much more on topic can that be?

At least the calls weren't bogus.

Back when I was a kid we were taught to, if for example you were in a situation where an intruder is in your house and you can't talk for fear of being discovered, to call 911 and stay silent, and that they will trace the call and send someone.

I take it from this article that wouldn't work in Japan.

Whenever stories like these crop up (and yes, they do so with surprising frequency), I'm ceaselessly baffled at why the authorities allow the suspect to continue to tie up emergency resources and personnel for 1000, 2000, or in this case, 5000 times before someone higherup finally says, "Okay, let's arrest him."

This is a public safety issue. I would imagine -- and expect as a taxpayer -- that they police would address the issue within, say, 10 occurances from the same person. It's not like the guy used 5000 different payphones, or used burner cellphones. That they caught him suggests they knew how to find him.

Why wait for the 5000th call before doing something about it? Anyone have any insight?

Why would anyone do that?

making more than 5,000 silent calls to 119.

Um. It could have been worse. If he would have gone out of his way to burn down the fire department, shit would have hit the fan.

tap tap werrly werrly cuckoo!

Why didn't the telephone company figure out after about 5-10 calls that went silent that his number should have been reported to the police for investigation?? Keystone kops at it again

It's always the quiet ones that you need to keep an eye on........

Why did they wait so long before doing something? 50 calls wasn't enough?

Such a small, small man...

Just one of Japan's many disturbed, self-entitled old oyaji. This one with a short Fuse as well, it seems, haha...

Nothing new to see here. Move along.

Ambulance car was supposed to be driving front of his car or over taken his car. What an idiot foolish man? This guy needs professional help before he burn down company.
