Man arrested for molesting woman as she walked home in Tokyo

Police in Tokyo have arrested a 40-year-old man on suspicion of molesting a woman in her 20s as she walked home in Itabashi Ward in August.

According to police, the suspect, Jun Tsuchiya, a company employee from Nerima Ward, has admitted to the charge, Fuji TV reported. Police said Tsuchiya came up behind the woman just before dawn on Aug 1. After grabbing her, he dragged her onto the premises of an apartment building, dropped his pants and started groping her breasts.

Police quoted Tsuchiya, who was identified through street surveillance camera footage, as saying the woman was his type and he wanted to embrace her.

How many more Japanese men would be arrested for molestation if every woman who experienced it reported it?

Vince Black - Japanese women would do well learn defense tactics against these cowardly gropers.

Many do! I saw a young woman drop a dirtbag groper with a karate kick to the chest at a station a couple of years ago. I applauded her!

He will not be prosecuted and he will do it again.

> If a woman fights back against attempted rape she will be put to prison for years.

> That is just how Japanese courts and law works. Woman should expect zero help even if they get beaten half dead and sent to hospital the police will claim “not enough evidence”. If the woman gets killed the police will rule it as “suicide”

Absolutely wrong on all points

What the....? I've seen MANY women who were my type, but I don't go grabbing up on them or even touching them! I feel that this is because like many of you fellow readers, we know how to control ourselves. As for this pervert, I think it is safe to say he doesn't belong out in public.

Pepper spray is illegal in Japan, so using it on someone, even in self-defence, will get you in big trouble.

And yes - if a woman fights back against a pervert, there’s a chance she will be arrested for assault.

I know a girl who pepper sprayed a guy who had attacked her and managed to hold him until police arrived. The police took her pepper spray away, scolded her, and then let the guy go.

I personally would not take the chance. I’ve had the opportunity several times to punch or elbow a train chikan in the face, but I didn’t take it because I didn’t want to chance that I’d be the one who went to jail. Instead I yelled and made a big fuss to call attention to him.

I simply don't trust the police. I’ve had enough encounters with them that I see them as ineffectual and biased against both women and foreigners.

I wonder if this his really his first offense, 40 years and all of a sudden he decides to become a sex pest like that? I don't believe it.

This is the act of a very perverted nutcase. Predatory and primitive by nature. I wonder how he managed and got along with people in his everyday life.

"ok suure go ahead then... not"

... these explanations always crack me up...

as saying the woman was his type and he wanted to embrace her.

....OK, that explains it then. How do these perverts come up with these explanations?

He wanted to "embrace her'

The problem is not the gropers

Is that a joke ?

If someone come to you and start touching your private, ... you are fine with it ? Even if the other one is not your type at all ?

You understand most people do not think this way and consider normal to be allowed to choose who touch them.

Japanese (man and woman) are perfectly approachable, it just imply you making a bit of effort : talking to them. Sure some are not interested to even talk to you and having some start running (I am not so big T-T) can be unpleasant but well, that happen. Just try someone else (and perhaps a different approach).

From an article on Reddit August 2018. Unless the law has changed, it would be at the police' discretion to decide what to do if they catch you with mace. They could confiscate it, and/or take you in. And we know the police' discretion is not objective. If you are planning to carry pepper spray, be prepared with an excellent reason in Japanese.

Article 1-2 of the Minor Offense Act states that “a person who secretly carries around, without justifiable reason, knives, iron rods, or items that are used to harm another person’s life or body” shall be fined or punished by temporary imprisonment. If a woman carries pepper spray with a rational purpose such as to defend herself, such act shall be justified. However, it still may be punishable under the Minor Offense Act if she carries it without any necessity.

So how can a woman protect themselves from being groped, molested or raped if its can get you in trouble either way ?

I have a pencil in my bag. I have some pens and thumb tacks. Can't those be used to harm someone? I'm just pointing out a mistake.
