Police in Aomori City on Tuesday arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of killing his 45-year-old mother at their home.

According to police, Kyo Sasaki stabbed his mother Megumi in the chest at around 11 p.m. Monday night, Fuji TV reported.

At 11:20 p.m., Sasaki called 110 and said he had stabbed his mother. Megumi was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police said Sasaki, a company employee, has admitted to the charge.

Sasaki told police he had been out drinking and got back home at around 10:30 p.m. He was quoted by police as saying he lost his temper after he and his mother had a heated argument but that he didn’t mean to kill her.

Oh, c'mon! Another one? Every flipping day there's at least one family murder in Japan. Yeah, Japan has a relatively low murder rate compared with other countries, but it would seem that home is not where the heart is.

A punch or a slap is different to using a knife. Hope he rots in hell. She was only 44.

@Disillusioned - Every flipping day there's at least one family murder in Japan

@Strangerland - And how is this different from any other first world country?

It's very different to where I come from. I guess you come from the US where over 35,000 people are killed by guns every year. So, I'm sure it seems normal to you.

I’m sure he is regretting his actions already and wishes he could have a do-over.

I’m sure the last thing his poor mother would want now is her son to get locked up for this.

A parents love is unconditional. With me it is anyway.

Tricky.

I am not sure and I do not have any statistics but while Japan does have a very low murder rate, I have a sneaking suspicion that a higher percentage of those murders are occurring within the family unit, than in most other countries. The total is still much lower than most other countries though.

understandable point...

And since Japan is close to the size of California, with a Population density of 349 P/Km2 many argue that puts the murder proximity can be much higher, and higher in some prefectures over others., i.e Osaka with an estimated population of over 8 million with a murder rate of 150 as of 2014.

I don't think so. Tell us your country, and lets look at the statistics.

I guess you come from the US

Nope.

Sure it is. Homes are extremely safe here.
