Man arrested for murder of woman in Nagano love hotel

A 45-year-old man was arrested for murder on Monday night, accused of strangling a 45-year-old woman to death in a love hotel in Nagano City on Saturday, police revealed Tuesday.

Police said Hiromasa Onozawa, an unemployed man from Nagano City but of no current fixed address, is accused of strangling Tomoe Shimoda, an unemployed 45-year-old woman, to death on Saturday with the belt of a hotel bath robe. An employee found the woman unconscious when he checked the room at about 6:30 p.m. and the woman was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Police said Shimoda told her father on Saturday morning that she was going to work, and when she didn’t return home that night her father filed a missing person’s report. Police put her car on a nationwide watch list and police in Mie Prefecture found it on Monday afternoon. Onozawa was inside the car and was asked to go to a nearby police station for questioning, where he told police he strangled Shimoda with the bath robe belt.

Onozawa said he became acquainted with Shimoda via a cell phone site in May and met her for the first time on Saturday, at the Hotel Quattro in Nagano City where he stayed from just after midday to around 6 p.m. He said he was angry with Shimoda when he killed her, and police are continuing to question him further on the motive.

Yeah and I get angry when they squish my fries into the Mc D's bag but I don't go mental and kill someone for it. I mean really... who throws a shoe?!? You could hurt someone with one of those.

I guess Japan Inc. is starting to fall apart in ways the rest of the world has already done. Quite sad...

Yet another dating site murder. It's sad that in such a densely populated country people have to resort to using social networking sites to meet people. They won't talk to their neighbors but will meet complete strangers who all too often turn out to be web spiders. My wife is an avid Mixi user and it truly frightens me every time she says she is going to meet one of these spiders.

I notice they've upgraded the hotel to love hotel. Any guesses why he was angry...

He probably asked her to be his long term lover ut she declined the offer and he busted his fuses. Starting to become like the Land of Short Fuses.

Still driving around in the victim's car two days later. Getting angry enough to kill a woman he just met for the first time in person a few hours before. Pretty strange and scary behavior. As for why he may have been angry, it says she was unemployed but told (lied to?) her father that she was going to work. No disrespect to the victim intended, but if you read between the lines, one possibility is that it was over money.

Is that an upgrade or a downgrade??

Keep hearing many such stories from acquaintances, family and workmates. It is easy to crackdown on the culprits. The pattern is very similar. Age is in the similar range. Generally, the men are unemployed or freelancers, divorced, seperated etc. They offer to help women. Generally women from certain countries. Women seperated from their Japanese husbands, or women who are unhappy with their Jhusbands or widows. The information is available with the dating sites. It's sad that in such a densely populated country people have to resort to using social networking sites to meet people. They won't talk to their neighbors but will meet complete strangers who all too often turn out to be web spiders. Someone has to wake the Js from their virtual world of TVgames and mangas. You need to find a life partner from real life. People you meet in your daily life. But then where is a social life for people here? It is all so different. I think in other countries we get so much of opportunities to mix with people almost everyday. Here you have to wait for the weekend or some festival or something like that.

GJ you hit the nail in the head: She was offering deri heri services and the price was not what he expected.

This is Japanese stupidity and immaturity at it's best. He strangled a woman he met for the first time in his life because quote: 'he was angry'. Hell my girlfriend of five years pisses me off all the time, but I would never strangle her. If she really pissed me off that badly I would just break up with her. Then after strangling the woman, he decides to ride around in HER car. What a freakin' idiot!

And I agree with Disillusioned and womanforwomen, why is it that Japanese people won't talk with their neighbor or someone they meet on the street, but will meet up with a total stranger in a hotel room? WTF is wrong with this country?

That was a cheap excuse. In fact, he probably did not have money to pay for the short time and he probably blurted a threat and then he snapped.

I guess some people forget where we are. This is the land where all your neighbors talk smack about you and where you can rarely find peace when it comes to them. This is also the place where they would rather look into their cell phone instead of looking forward when they walk. At least they are communicating...even if it is on a lower level. But hey, this is everywhere now, not just here. There are plenty of people self absorbed in their own lives. This guy, he was just sick. No manga or videogame taught him this and within his age, blaming it on either of these things is pretty close to nil, unless you want to say Astro Boy corrupted him. Please...

Hey, good job j-cops! Seems like just yesterday more than one poster claimed that unless this guy turned himself in the cops would never find him. C'mon guys, you know who you are, a little congratulations is in order!

i agree he is freakinf idiot. So many freaky people the police should take care of and put in jail.

of course deriheru services flourish. everyman on the planet has a sex drive, some lie and put up with nonsense(much more so with a jgirl) to get it, and some pay for it.

standard practice is to say the 8000 yen for the hour was just to hang out and watch tv. 'now where is my beer ketchi ossan???'

bad day looking for temp work, he just snapped. sad all around.

Unemployed and no fixed address! Just keep him behind the bars until they hang him. Good job cops, and please don't forget other crimes that were before this crime. I do wonder why girl upset him so much? Didn't he had money to pay her for service rendered?

Womanforwomen you cease to amaze with your generalizations. Hakujinsensei thank you! Womenforwomen did not say he or she had 'friends' just 'acquaintances' so I am guessing she/he has none....not surprisingly. The woman in the hotel may have been using the guy...and he got angry...but who knows until he says.

As one who talks their share of smack about Jcops, allow me to say for once in the 6 years I have lived in Japan, nice work Jcops - keep it up.

Womanforwomen, I am not sure this concept of not talking to neighbors is unique to Japan. It is much more global. People relocate more frequently than before. Also the internet keeps people holed up at home. However these love hotels are definitely unique to Japan.

womanforwomen: I sometimes wonder which generation you belong to or which country you came from. I've read your comments twice and both contains elements of arrogance, racism and ignorance.

People all over the world go on social networking sites, regardless of what their cultures are. It's the modern way of communication. Some people fell in love and got married. Some people meet up and found themselves not compatible. So what? It's a risk everyone has to take.

The 45-year old woman is single and being single in Japan at that age is like over, over the hill...she's desperate. She needs a man to marry her off. But she was unfortunate to have met that jerk. RIP.

Oh well...perhaps generation gap..:)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

OK, ok, I'll admit that the cops did a good job. But when the fool is sitting in the victim's car with the victim's license plates how hard can it be to catch him? When the cops catch the jerk who murdered Hawker let us know.

BTW, so much for prostitution being a victimless crime. Sad thing. Desperate people.

The angry homeless man story is such a joke. I would not be surprised with this story that he admits to killing 4 or 5 more women in other perfectures. He is 45 years old and decided to kill someone on the spur of the moment? I wouldn't think so, especially if he had taken the victims vehicle and cruised around for two days. Time will tell as the J-cops interrogate him for more information. Either that or he is mentally sick and will be given a lighter sentenced because he did not know what he was doing doing at the time.
