Man arrested for punching 2-year-old son in face

Police in Ashiya, Fukuoka Prefecture, have arrested a 41-year-old man on suspicion of physically abusing his 2-year-old son.

The suspect, Yoichi Minagawa, an office employee, is suspected of punching his son in the face, bruising his nose, at home early Tuesday morning, Sankei Shimbun reported.

This incident came to light after Minagawa's wife called 119 when she noticed her son's nose bleeding a lot. Paramedics who treated the boy reported the incident to police.

According to police, Minagawa came home drunk and has said he doesn't remember doing anything to his son.

Also, multiple scars and bruises were found on the son's body, leading police to believe that Minagawa has used violence on his son in the past. They are also questioning the boy's mother for further details.

Punch and he did not kill his own son? Alcohol ... why do people drink if they forget who they are. Saw it growing up ... maybe it is why I do not. This headline is outrageous. Can we all line up and punch this guy?

Punching a 2-year old in the face..... that is attempted murder in my book.

it's so sad to read about these cases. We all need some more love and honest effort to improve ourselves and make things work. The father needs to realize what a precious gift he has been blessed with and find other ways than alcohol and violence as outlets for his stress. It's not too late for him or for the boy. Where there is a will, there is a way.

I hope the japanese social services will step in and make some kind of action plan. I have no idea how family social work is laid out in Japan. I am a social worker myself and have worked in youth department where we would get cases similar to these. First there would need to be a quick estimation of whether its safe or not for the child to be at home, and then estimate what kind of support the parents could need. In the case of the father maybe an anger management course, or learning how to be a better parent. Hope things turn out well for the kid.

You can't make this stuff up...sad..

What a loser! Unfortunately the boy will grow up with the invisible scars.

Lock him up. Take the boy away immediately.

Mods: what's the problem in pointing out the double standards?

Moderator: There are no double standards. You must learn to respect others with different views from yourself, and if they have sympathy for a perpetrator of a crime, they have that right without you taking issue with their stance.

Tomorrow he will be back to his office as he came home drunk and has said he doesn’t remember doing anything to his son.

@DaDude

If the mother truly cares about the boy, she should have nipped the problem in the bud from the start.

As somebody else mentioned, the mother was probably being physically abused too... Probably made it difficult to report until "someone else" (the paramedics) reported it "for her" to the police.

The cops should have let him "trip" in the stairs as they took him away.

WHATTA PIECE OF GARBAGE!!! YOU CAN'T PICK YOUR OWN SIZE HUH?? I'm sorry but I think the mother knows about this physical abuse just reluctant to report maybe they are both receives beating.. sorry to assume.. but HE is not a MAN.

Minagawa has used violence on his son in the past.

The boy is only 2 years old so the "past" is basically within 2 years. If the mother truly cares about the boy, she should have nipped the problem in the bud from the start. Divorce is the only thing that can solve this problem because a man who punches a 2 year old is worthless scum.

What a piece of trash he is! Glad the mother reported him, but it seems she had been l eating him get away with it for a while before she took action. I'm also sure he was abusing her as well this was why she never made a complaint before.

Reporting of cases is at an all time high.

Highlighting a a problem that always existed but now has gotten more attention. A big problem nonetheless.

A simple Google search shows that child abuse cases here in Japan are at an all time high. If nothing else, the one thing we can do as residents of this country is donate to the Orange Ribbon Japan organization which raises awareness on and acts to prevent child abuse. http://www.orangeribbon.jp/ Nonetheless, I hope this father gets whats coming to him sooner, rather than later...

well he used the classic "I was drunk and do not remember a thing" line. He will probably apologize officially, and will be sent back home. I hope I'm wrong, but I've read far too many tragic stories already here.

The ol' "don't remember anything" line. I guess he couldn't judge right from wrong being so drunk and is therefore not culpable?
