Police in Mito, Ibaraki Prefecture, have arrested a 46-year-old man on suspicion of raping and robbing a woman in a car in the parking lot of a shopping mall on Sept 7.

According to police, the suspect, Noriyoshi Namekawa, a part-time hotel employee who resides in Hokota City, met the woman who is in her 30s, on an Internet dating site and arranged to meet up with her at the shopping mall parking lot, Fuji TV reported Thursday.

Police said Namekawa forced the woman into his car and bound her hands and feet, assaulted her and stole her wallet which had about 120,000 yen in cash. He also punched the woman in the face, police said.

Namekawa has confessed to the crime and police are questioning him about his involvement in other similar crimes.

I often carry near that amount of cash because the line of grannies who do their numerous bank transfers at the ATM make me want to reduce my trips to the ATM to a minimum lest I commit a crime of my own.

Japanese women are considered and treated like sex objects not human beings

Where do people get these ideas? Porn sites? Japanese women are known for ruling their households and being treated to expensive merchandise. They have rights, rapes are investigated and they are covered by national medical insurance. They own property and businesses. And I have not seen any for sale ever. I have seen some for rent, but they were not owned by their boss and they were free to quit or say no.

I also have to wonder why this woman was carrying ¥120,000.

Really? I have to wonder why, after being on JT for as long as you have, you would have no idea how to answer this yourself.

There are countless reasons why a person in Japan would be walking around with that kind of cash. She could have just gotten paid (yes, many businesses still pay their employees in cash in Japan), she could have been heading to the train station to buy a commuter pass, she could have been taking the money to an ATM for an electronic transfer to pay rent or bills or taxes. Having this kind of cash on oneself implies nothing nefarious whatsoever.

I just hope the woman recovers and manages to find some semblance of peace after such a terrifying ordeal.

This is extremely unfortunate to say the least. She agreed to meet him in a public place, which is a reasonable precaution to me. I don't really know what can be done to protect oneself from the truly determined *holes.

I hope this lady can recover quickly knowing that this guy is going to be spending a long time in the big house.

Yep. but seriously why is it now 'Man' arrested? Why is nationality not important in this case? See how that works? Readers only see 'Foreigner' Peruvian" etc. and 'Man' - why impression does that give people? Yep, foreigners commit crimes.

@FizzBit there are no women leaders because regardless on what they do, the public will be against their opinions. Japanese women are considered and treated like sex objects not human beings. I don't agree with it, but that is just the reality.

Another internet dating predator! When will people (men and women) learn that they should never meet a stranger alone that they met on the Internet?

I also have to wonder why this woman was carrying ¥120,000.

I feel so sad for these ladies just trying to find some companionship, and met with violence. Where are the woman leaders in this country and why aren't they doing a campaign about the dangers of internet dating sites!!!!

Do variety shows even touch on the subject?

To all women . Stay off those dating sites . They are full of weirdos . If you can't find a guy the old fashion way just give it some time and your meet the right guy .

"Namekawa forced the woman into his car and bound her hands and feet, assaulted her and stole her wallet which had about 120,000 yen in cash"

Yes, I agree that Japanese women allow themselves to be considered and treated like sex objects not human beings... :-(

@PeaceOut "rapes are investigated and they are covered by national medical insurance"

Oh so that explains it then!! My comment that "Japanese women allow themselves to be considered and treated like sex objects not human beings" stands then.

Money talks... hence the ¥120,000. Most probably she didn't have that much money and it is just an INSURANCE SCAM!!! ;-)

Thanks to @PeaceOut for the additional research...
