Man arrested for rigging brick to fall from 10th floor of apartment building

Police have arrested a 42-year-old man on suspicion of rigging a brick to fall from his apartment building in Osaka.

According to police, Kazuo Nakatani, a delivery company employee, has been charged with forcible obstruction of business. Fuji TV quoted police as saying he rigged a 2-kg brick to fall from the railing of the 10th floor corridor of his apartment building at around 6 a.m. on April 12. The brick fell in front of the entrance below but nobody was hurt.

Police the said the brick was bound to the railing by five elastic bands, in the center of which Nakatani had placed a lit cigarette. The brick was “timed” to fall from the building as soon as the heat from the cigarette melted the elastic bands, police said.

Neighbors were quoted by police as saying that they had seen bricks stored in front of Nakatani’s apartment since April and were wondering what he was using them for.

“He seemed like a quiet man. It’s hard to believe that he would do something like that,” a neighbor said.

According to police, there have been six similar accidents in the apartment building since September last year. Police are currently investigating Nakatani’s potential involvement in those cases as well.

Dude was just hoping that someone would walk under his timed bricks and be killed... Not too hard of a stretch to call this attempted murder or at least manslaughter.

The BRICK fell [TEN FLOORS] in front of the entrance below but nobody was hurt.

This sounds like a childish prank... but the man was FORTY-TWO YEARS OLD!!

Wouldve been better for all if this worthless freeter jumped off the balcony along with his bricks - as long as no-one was down below.

What kind of idiotic charge is that? What "business" is an apartment building?

Lots of businesses are in apartment buildings. And if the building is a rental building, the building itself is a business.

But this is likely just a holding charge while they gather the evidence they want to charge him with the actual crime they intend to charge him with.

Well, I think Sherlock Holmes would have no difficulty concluding who is responsible. Pretty sure there is not a whole gang of brick chuckers.

So they saw the bricks but denied to report it? He exposed many individuals to an imminent danger. What a waste of oxygen!

A delivery company employee.... a person that frequently enters and exits buildings, rigs a brick to drop at a place similar to one he might often go. The man has issues.... Chicken Little syndrome.

I've always said, "It's the quiet ones you have to watch out for!" This guys obviously got a few screws loose.

Japan's reputation as a safe country has sure been taking a beating recently... maybe time for a reassessment?

I wonder if they made a link to the bricks that kept falling from the sky.

I was rubbish at physics at school, and even I know that a 2 KG brick traveling at XX Mph from that sort of height is going to kill some one. should the charge be attempted murder?

If one of those bricks hit someone I cared about, the law would be the least of his worries‥……
