Police in Tokyo have arrested a 27-year-old man on suspicion of threatening an elderly woman with a knife and stealing 70,000 yen in cash.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 3 p.m. on Nov 30, Fuji TV reported. The suspect, Masafumi Kurimoto, a construction industry worker from Ibaraki Prefecture, is accused of breaking into the apartment belonging to a woman in her 80s in Toshima Ward.
The woman told police the man threatened her with a knife and said: “You have 30 million yen, don’t you?” He managed to steal 70,000 yen and flee.
Before the break-in incident, the woman had been a victim of a scam in late October when a man posing as a post office employee visited her and stole her ATM card. Police are investigating whether Kurimoto and the man involved in that theft are part of a gang.© Japan Today
