Taxi drivers in Japan are for some (more and more) over 75...

Needless to say I did not even understand how you could start giving money to a customer before he hands you out some large note before.

Are cabbies really so stupid as to give change first?? Not blaming them, but still...

Taxi drivers may talk and communicate, but he still managed to get away with money from over 100 taxis.

There is absolutely no reason that they should give change first. Furthermore, if he is going to the atm to take out ¥10,000 I am sure he can also take out ¥1,000 or amounts smaller than ¥10,000.

Taxis here can’t go completely cashless because 80% of transactions are cash based. Many people don’t carry cards or want to use other alternative forms of payments. But too many taxis here ONLY accept cash so it makes them easy targets.

Why would taxis go cashless? Most of us want to pay in cash in Japan. I do. I don't like using credit cards or suica etc.

Yeah, that trick is not going to work forever. He's lucky the police caught him. Taxi drivers talk to each other and there are probably more than a few who can stand up for themselves.

Can’t go cashless? What a load of garbage! They can very easily go cashless. There is Suica, credit card and a very uncommon thing in Japan called, direct debit. Going cashless is very easy and not expensive. However, this is Metathesiophobic Japan! You can’t change anything for fear of upsetting the ‘wa’.

Time to make Japanese cabs cashless, like many ‘modern’ countries have done. Too many are getting robbed.

I wonder if the driver has to pay money to the cab company?
