Police in Chiba city have arrested a man for threatening a worker at an internet cafe with a knife, and stealing cash from the cafe on two separate occasions in 2021.
According to police, the suspect is a university student who cannot be named because he was 19 at the time of the robberies in October, TV Asahi reported. Police said he is accused of threatening an employee with a knife and stealing 30,000 yen and 40,000 yen in cash from the same cafe in Inage Ward on Oct 7 and Oct 16.
The suspect was arrested on Feb 3 after attempting to rob a convenience store at knifepoint.

I wonder which university has students this stupid? Throwing your whole future in the toilet for ¥70,000.
While in prison he can study about risk/reward analysis.

So internet cafes are easier to rob than convenience stores? maybe the clerks need to have some extra training about how to deal with this situation.

you really are out of touch with Japanese society. There are hundreds of thousands of Japanese below the poverty line. Many sleep rough, many in cars like at my local service area, some in day worker dorms, or, common amount the young…24hr Internet cafes. Air con, toilet, some have showers, drink buffet, internet and movies.
because only poor people stay there, the cash register only has ¥30000-40000 a day.
sad reality.

Give that man a loyalty card.

That young adult criminal behaviour is obviously the result of bad parenting and bad teachers mentoring and supervision. With that young age will be raped and beated in prison for sure, and came out more dangerous or PTS and addicted to prescription. As for the cybercafe, the internet service on the smartphone is very expensive so it is a good solution to order 2 or 3 coffees and stay many hours using the interner, owners complain about clients ordering one coffee and staying all afternoon, the new business charge for the hour , its called network office i guess.

Well, THiS story’s made the disposition of the accused CLEAR:
Still, seems like we’ll be reading similar accounts in upcoming months while the tradition and recent cases overlap.

Not the sharpest knife in the drawer huh?
Glad the law finally changed because this gets more and more absurd when you read it. If he has the forethought to get a knife and plan a robbery via knife point, then he should be willing to deal with the very adult consequences of his actions.

I give him Kudos' for his efforts!

@Newgirlintown, i am guessing you never been to one before. Because if you saw it, then you wouldn't have said this.
Is practically like a room for people to spend a whole day or night there. Plus some gamers really like the setup. There are drink and even food to order.
I use to go there to spend some time when i miss a train. Some even go there just to grab a nap. Is cheap so a lot of people like spending time there.

The biggest surprise for me is that Internet cafes still exist when (almost) everyone’s had the Internet in their pocket for the past ten years or so.

Arrest was in feb. Is there is need to report this in April?
