This could have been avoided if parents and teachers used their brains. Honestly, the dark brings out lots of people with sick intentions... cause they are too cowardly to show their faces.

Good on this girl for reporting this crime, I hope that her heart heals and her mental well being also.

Those are all modifications banned by nearly every school, they carry out checks occasionally where hair colour and makeup is corrected etc but during my high school years no one ever got busted for having too short skirts. The skirt isn't usually rolled up, it's cut. About half the length is discarded.

@SenseNotSoCommon The sexualization you refer to is not the uniform, its how they are worn. Have a look at a middle school students uniform. Ive VERY rarely seen them have skirts above their knees, improper fitting shirts, etc. I wouldn't find a middle school student sexy, nor should any person, but the point is THAT is what it is meant to be. The 1cm from the seeing everything length skirts, super tight shirts to "show form," loose socks from back in the day, custom ribbons, etc are all choices made by the girl, illustrated by the girls which leave the house with their skirt to their knees and by the time they reach school it is rolled up so much that is barely covering anything.

Look at all the American helicopter parents posting here and voting down people who don't think you should lock up your daughters at nightfall until they're of voting age. Disgraceful.

It doesn't matter how safe a country is. JHS kids should not be out past 8pm. Period. Another thing, teach your kids, especially your daughters, martial arts and self defense. This can and does happen in midday too. All kids, but especially girls, need to learn how to defend themselves.

I normally agree with many things you say but I have to sort of disagree with you this time.

Yes, Japan is safer and it is true that tens of thousands of kids walk home safely without incident late at night, but having said that, as a parent, if the possibility of your kids getting somehow involved in incidents, then I would try to avoid that possibility the best I can. If my kids have to come home late in the evening, as much as I can I would like to be there to pick them up. If it's possible for my kids to not to be out late at night, then that'd be best. And one of several reasons why my kids do not go to Juku, is because of that. We get materials for them to study at home and so it saves them time to go and return home (and they're not tired the next morning, either).

Again, like you said, most of the times it's safe and kids come home safely, but I would still avoid my kids being out late at night as much as possilbe. I wouldn't take a chance.

I had a hotel room across from a cram school recently. I could see the class clearly through the window as it got darker. The class finished about 21:00. The female teacher was out of the class faster than the students. She had a car waiting to pick her up. She was out of the building and in that car like a bat out of hell.

And then I saw the kids shuffling out... one by one... to walk home... ALONE!

Have you eliminated cars from your lifestyle? why would I!? but i teach my kids to always wear there seat belts, and drive as safetly within the speed limit etc. theres always risk in almost everthing you do, its doing the little things to minimise those risks. saying that kids walking home late by themselves is as safe as having somebody walk home with you or pick you up is just plain deluded, yes the risks are small but ill take the later anyday.

Poor girl. I've been involved in amateur boxing for some 15 years now but I consider myself totally non-violent outside of the ring but man, if I saw an incident like this taking place......

As a poster earlier said, kids should be taught self defence and fighting skills as part of their lessons at school. A lot more useful for their lives than some of the other stuff in my humble opinion.

From my understanding, Japan doesn't have a "sex offenders" register, fair enough, it does rise a few conspiracy theories but we'll save that for another day.

At the very least, are rehabilitation facilities and services made readily available for such individuals? In any case, I am certain many of these offenders would seek help and advice from the early stages of the depression. One work hope before the symptoms became this severe.

Alas I believe not enough emphasis is put on such services if any. It would fall under the wellbeing of your subjects or rather safty of the members of the public. Normally such responsibility falls on the government presently in power.

It's rather disturbing and the facts that, the adult entertainment industry in Japan is not policed or hardly ever policed means, many adult content parading the likes of Lolicon (underage indecencies) are readily accessible.

I teach in high and college. Many of the girls I speak to have had experiences similar to this, most of which have gone unreported. The subculture of Japanese men is extremely deviant and many of them have unhealthy sexual fantasies about young girls. I'll bet this predator had AKB photos in his phone.

So you've never been the character your pretended on this board. In France, high school finishes so late (5 or 6 pm) that there is no way that teens get back before dark from October to March. OK, nobody cares. My point is it's BS to say J-people let their kids outside at crazy hours, and that would be so different from other countries. In average, that's even the contrary. You can see countless 20-somethings that have never crossed a road without either Mum holding their hand or walking as part of a school kid regiment. And that doesn't protect them, that makes them weaker preys for the rest of their lives.

Totally ineffective, you have more risk to spray yourself if you can reach it. Try French boxing, aikido or krav maga. Not that frail little girls can become strong like those beasts, but they can get reflexes to kick back and run away, which is often enough to escape street assaults (for me so far).

why don't they introduce a sex offenders register like we have in the UK? the more serious offences go to prison , but, some of the lesser charges, like Chikan on trains, inappropriate actions in schools get a warning and put on a register, IF he/she carries on and get caught again, the offence gets ramped up and then gets charged with a more serious offence. this register is a nation wide, so if mr XXX moves to another town or village he has to report to the local police so he can tracked and monitored

If you are going to tell children to make sure they are never anywhere where there is a possibility of getting sexually assaulted, they would have to lock themselves into jail cells, and make sure no one has a key. Because kids can be assaulted everywhere and anywhere, and at any time, including their home, at their school, on the way home, in the morning, evening or at night. It's better to teach kids how to protect themselves, and to teach them how to act smartly, than to panic.
