Took 3 month for this arrest to happen. Not sure if i should respect the police for still able to after catch him or comment on how slow they were with this case. Or maybe they needed more evidence. Is not easy to just track him down with surveillance footage alone. Especially to get a confession if he had wear a mask and the woman can't identify him. I always wonder how the police able to make these molesters confess when the police don't have any proof to arrest them even if they know they got the real culprit. As long the culprit deny it's him, it would be impossible to convict him at court. No proof means no case. For confession are a must in cases like these.

@Hiro, it still better that catch the right person rather than they do it quick but catch the wrong person and forced for confession.

In Japan, if you do not confess to the crime that you are accused of, you will be in detention for as long as the police deem fit until you confess to the crime even if you did the crime or not. A confession will get you better treatment.

Glad they caught the scum. Lets hope the buildup of millions more CCTV continues everywhere, so these animals can be removed from society and thrown in prisons where they belong.

Japan should deal with these sex offenders from the core of it’s society.

Teaching children to equally respect women, stop publishing and selling weird mangas about young girls in sexual activities and stop sexualizing young women in the music and entertainment industry.

They need to work this out from the core and to fix such mentality it needs a new and fresh generation educated in such things.

That's it? No lame excuse to make us posters laugh and shake our heads?? Damn.

Sex offenders register, please.

It is at once odd and disappointing to me that this admittedly terrible but isolated case is being reported while literally hundreds, if not thousands, of women, are being sexually molested on public transport every single day in Japan.

You have to start somewhere - and police need women and girls to report these sexual crimes. The vast majority do not. Respect to this very brave young woman.

The government or police stations need to start sending all women bottles of purse sized pepper spray and allow them to use them.

Wait, that means they can't harass women either.....never mind.

A poster suggested carrying around a jar of hot sauce and maybe a bright flashlight.

No, this is not true! Go do a little research, then come back and admit you were just posting a knee-jerk reaction!

Why is this a news story? It happens so often that they would be nothing else on the front page of JT.

If you know anything about the judicial system in Japan you'd know there is a lot of truth to it.

Consider how Japan manages a 99% conviction rate.

It's got nothing to do with the judicial system, and it's about the comment here

you will be in detention for as long as the police deem fit until you confess to the crime

This is NOT a fact! Prosecutors will typically NOT go to trial unless they have a confession, you just dont often hear about the people who were detained and NOT prosecuted.

If you know anything about the system here you would know this!

If and when women start to fight back and stand for their rights only then you will see these SCUMS back off. but when women do not report , or just runaway, then the offender thinks he can do it again, so it's up to women to put an end to this with the support of concerned parties.

I’m glad they caught the guy but the pervasiveness of surveillance state is astounding. Big Brother lives!

Everyone has Ring cameras or other kinds of security cameras on their homes and businesses. And, as was the case here recently when we had a mail thief, everyone shares their footage with police. Thief was caught btw, the very same night we observed her stealing our mail.

Why did it take this long to make an arrest? Surely with all the surveillance cameras installed everywhere, they would have been able to identify the perp. People keep proclaiming that Japan is a safe place...and it is unless you're female. Why won't the government address this prevalent issue?

And those 'idol' groups too. I find them exhibitionist and expoitative. For pervs.

When it comes to women in the music business, show me ones who write/sing/play their songs. Just like the men. And no I don't like those stupid 'boy bands' either, lip-synching and dancing to drum machines that somebody else programmed.

The length of time may be because they waited and watched in order to catch him in the very act of doing (trying to do) the same thing to someone else. 現行犯 'genko-han', in flagrante dilecto.

Once charged, they can then get him to confess to other crimes on their books.

Just a thought.

Or better yet, teach society that just because a woman dresses, sings, acts, or exists in a sexual way, that does not give people a green light to abuse her. Women have a right to be as openly sexual as they please, but just because a woman dresses sex or whatever doesn’t mean she consents go sex.
