Police in Fukuyama, Hiroshima Prefecture, said Thursday they have arrested a 25-year-old man for inflicting serious injury on his 2-year-old son with an air gun.

According to police, the suspect, identified as Takazumi Nakajima, had been shooting his son over a period of one month with an air gun, Sports Nippon reported.

Police quoted Nakajima as saying that he had shot his son after getting angry at him for "repeatedly changing the TV channels." The young child's body was marked with dozens of 6 millimeter impact wounds after being hit by plastic bullets fired from his father's air gun.

On Tuesday at around 5:25 p.m., Nakajima began shooting his son when his wife, 29, walked in. In an attempt to shield her son, she was also caught in the crossfire leaving her with injuries necessitating one week of recovery, police said.

The couple took the boy to hospital for treatment of his wounds. After examining the welts which covered the boy from his head to the lower half of his body, hospital staff called police, Sports Nippon reported.

According to the prefectural child consultation center, no previous reports of child abuse have been made against Nakajima.

What do you expect a 2 year old to do? Understand everything?

This is beyond ridiculous... the things that people do. They should lock him up for awhile for him to reflect on his actions.

Unbelievable. What a POS.

i'm glad the mother protected her son in this case. so often you hear that they defend their boyfriends's actions.

How did she not see all the other welts, though, and stop him sooner?

Should just be locked up for good throw away the key! This is just crazy its sick and sad brings tears to my eyes when I think a little child has been abused like that.

This guy needs to get buckwheated!

"no previous reports of child abuse have been made against Nakajima" - try assault with a dangerous weapon or maybe even attempted murder. Sooner this guy is out of the boy's and mother's life the better.

, Sports Nippon reported.

A sports newspaper? Say what? Some of those air soft guns pack a wallop and can go through doors. Who would be in favor of lining this scumbag up against a wall and letting rip with a few hundred rounds?

What a scum bag. Throw away the key.

What is wrong with these people? Shooting your own kid??? REALLY???

They should shoot the scumbag with his own air rifle and put the child in a safe home to prevent him from hurting the child ever again.

First of all, the father is a scumbag and deserves to be beaten in the head with the remote. Heck, throw the entire TV at him.

Secondly, the mother never noticed any scars changing diapers, clothes and giving baths? She protects the kid getting injured in the crossfire then goes to the hospital with the dad?

The mother is unfit as well and the child deserves much much better.

I am actually surprized the hospital staff stuck their necks out more than anything else. Good on them and let's hope more hospitals do so. Also good on the cops for arresting him rather than triplicate report and lost in a file handling this case. Good on them and let's hope more police departments do so.

I am just shaking my head. What can one say about such a moron.

The boy could have been blinded. He assaults the 2 year old son with an air rifle. This 25 year old man deserves to be hit by a rocket launcher.

Air guns are not soft guns and they can kill a human being if used in a harmful way. In fact every year people mostly children are killed by air guns. A air gun shoots hard metal projectile while a airsoft gun shoots a soft rubber or plastic projectile. A air gun usually shoots pellets and at a higher velocity than a standard BB gun or airsoft gun. These guns are used mainly for target practice and to teach children how to use firearm properly. Therefore air guns are not soft guns and airsoft guns are soft guns and shoot plastic BB's which are pretty much harmless.

The police should do the same to him with rubber bullets for educational purposes.

"The young child’s body was marked with dozens of 6 millimeter impact wounds after being hit by plastic bullets fired from his father’s air gun."

The proper term would then be "airsoft" gun, not "air gun".

And, yes, airsoft guns can pack a wallop at close range(less than 5 meters), especially the GBB types.

This guy belongs in a cage.

Novenachama- I think they really meant airsoft gun and just put it as airguns.

and yes they sting and hurt even from 50 meters away. I play alot of Airsoft here in Japan (survival games) and getting hit by these things from 30-50 m still packs a sting. normal FPS on these guns are around 270-310 FPS and on a 2 year old whos probably not even wearing thick clothing or any protection and really close?. This guy needs to be tied up to a tree naked and shot by his own gun.

Cant figure out how the mother didnt see the welts from previous times.

The wife is just as guilty for she had to have seen this going on and especially seeing the welts on her son's body during bathing.

There is no excuse for either and both should be given harsh prison sentences that corresponds to the crime they did to that young lad.

Yet the court will allow her to go free and the father to humbly apologize to what he did thus freeing them to develop another way to torture the boy.
