Police in Toyoya City, Aichi Prefecture, have arrested a 34-year-old man on suspicion of assaulting a male jogger and three women in a convenience store.

According to police, the assaults started at around 6:30 a.m. Sunday. Fuji TV reported that a 27-year-old man and his girlfriend were jogging by a supermarket when a man, whom they did not know, stopped his car, got out and asked them to go drinking with him. When the couple ignored the man, a confrontation ensued. During a scuffle between the two men, the stranger stabbed the jogger in his left arm with a knife. The girlfriend then fled 100 meters to a convenience store. However, the suspect chased her and attacked three shoppers in the store. The victims were a 29-year-old woman, her 6-year-old daughter and her 48-year-old mother-in-law. All three sustained injuries inflicted by blows to the head.

The suspect was then forcefully held down in the store by two male employees until police arrived.

The suspect has been identified as Akitoshi Kimura, a resident of Uehara-cho, Toyota City, and whose occupation is unknown. According to police, Kimura has remained silent since his arrest.

It has also been reported that a male in his 30s who passed by the supermarket tried to restrain Kimura by throwing a bicycle at him. However, Kimura stabbed him, then dropped the knife, before he headed into the convenience store.

I'm glad nobody was seriously injured, because that makes me feel less bad about laughing about this. Especially the last part about a dude trying to stop him "by throwing a bicycle at him".

Should have just went drinking with the guy, apparently refusing to drink with someone is rude in Japan!

Ever since man has been riding on two wheels he has been practicing the revered and mysterious art of bicycle throwing

I'm guessing he's mentally challenged. Normal people don't just go up to some anonymous joggers and ask them to go drinking with them.

huh?

wha...?

So this girlfriend abandoned her man, and indirectly got three other women attacked. Meanwhile no report of herself getting hurt. What a standup woman.

Um.....she got him arrested and saved her life. I tell my wife to do the same if I ever get into a confrontation. RUN get help, and I will handle it. That way I know she is safer.

Where is Toyoya City ? (Surely you must mean Toyota)

Gaijindesu, she did the right thing, no point both getting killed in a knife attack and I recommend no girls to expect you to protect them.

Sounds like the assaulter is a bit queer in the head. Fortunately, no fatalities. It could have been worse.

At 6:30am? Let's hope this loon is locked up for a long time.

Alright, since folks are dead serious around here, let me just state for the record: if this happens to me and the woman I love, I would give my life for her. Yes I would.

Not your ordinary drunkard, more like a mental case.

What a strange man! Mentally disturbed? Deluded? Lonely?

I would agree that this man has a mental problem. Is it me, or is this sort of thing happening more and more in Japan. I remember the days when Japan really was safe.

Gaijindesu. If the girlfriend was black belt in Martial-art and then it will be different story but she wasn't. Only thing she can do was looking out for help and get the help from other peoples. If she stay with her boyfriend and defend her boyfriend and then probably she will be stabbed by that crazy man as well. Now they got the attacker because of her seeking help from nearby convenience store.

I often wonder the same and unfortunately Japan has been changing this way. too much lunatics nowadays

The standard of some of these comments is really rather low. As many say,the man is clearly mentally ill, probably psychotic, and Pukey2 has it about right I think on all counts! The girl friend can not be blamed for running away in either panic or to get help, and we don't know for sure which, so there is no need to criticize her. As for throwing the bicycle at the offender, anyone who learns any form of self-defence is usually told that ANYTHING can be used as a weapon if suitable and the need arises; a cup of hot coffee in the eyes, an umbrella, or........ a bicycle!

The very first post of this thread kinda set the tone for many of us here. Nobody died, we made some humorous comments.

Then some folks with stiff upper lips decided no fun can be had and decided to deride us. For the final time, people, there's humorous posts here. Relax.

I would tell my girlfriend to run away too. And as humorous as it sounds, the guy who threw the bicycle may have prevented others from getting stabbed as he made the guy drop his knife by doing so.
