Police in Tokyo have arrested a 24-year-old unemployed man for spraying graffiti on several buildings near Yotsuya Station.
According to police, Naoki Hayashi was arrested for vandalism last November. TV Asahi reported that Hayashi is suspected of spraying graffiti, such as large characters and figures nearly two meters high and three meters long, on at least 10 buildings in Chiyoda Ward.
Hayashi was quoted by police as saying he had been in a very special mood after having consumed a lot of alcohol, and that he had liked some designs he had looked up online, so he decided to copy them by spraying graffiti on buildings.
Police said they are also questioning Hayashi about similar acts of vandalism in May 2013, as well as two accomplices seen in street surveillance camera footage.

How important it is for Japanese society to always, always, point out that people arrested are jobless, or what they do for a living. It's as if their whole lives revolve around... Oh, wait...
jcapan
Knox, in the media's defense the unemployed are known deviants.

How is this news worthy of JAPANTODAY? All he did was spray graffiti. So what? This kind of kid doesn't need to be on national news. Its exactly what he wants. He's probably reveling in his jail now.
YAY!!! MY TAG IS ON NATIONAL TV!
It happens EVERYWHERE. All around the world. Everyday day.

Sounds like having sprayed graffiti "artily" and become an "artistic genius," though with the help of alcohol. Hopefully, he's learned his lesson the hard way by getting booked this time around. But, um, given the fact the this is not the first time, chances are very high that he would boot it again if he wouldn't lose the booze.

I find it refreshing. It means that there isn't news of murder, gun shootings, and other much worse crimes that are filling up the news preventing the resources for news like this to be posted. You should be thankful to live in a place where this is the worst crime available to the national news (if you live in Japan that is).

I really, really hate graffiti. Most of it is just mindless and costs a lot to those who have been tagged to remedy. Fortunately it is not a big problem in Japan and I hope a strong deterrent sentence will make other would be "artists" to think twice before they take up this form of vandalism. Back when Clinton was president an American youth got arrested for graffiti spraying in Singapore. Despite Bill's pleas he got six good whacks with the rattan cane. And how much graffiti do you see in Singapore?
