Police in Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture, said Wednesday they have arrested an unemployed 36-year-old man on suspicion of stabbing a 14-year-old girl as she walked home on May 11.

According to police, the suspect, Kunihiko Katsuta, rode a bicycle toward the girl at around 5 p.m., Sankei reported. The girl told police that the assailant, who she did not know, got off his bike and suddenly lashed at her with a knife, before getting back on his bicycle and fleeing. The girl suffered several puncture wounds to her stomach, police said.

Police said Katsuta has admitted to having stabbed the girl, but has denied that he wanted to kill her.

Katsuta was identified through witness accounts of having seen him riding his bike in the area and also by street surveillance camera footage.

I am so glad they caught this piece of filth. And I sincerely hope he is the culprit in many similar crimes that have happened in the past and they finally got one of those creeps. It would be nice to think there will be a sharp reduction in pathetic individuals slashing random females.

Call it stereotyping if you want but I constantly see those loner types everywhere I go. Live here long enough then they stick out to me as much as my pinky face sticks out to the Japanese. Taught a few in my years too. Lack of social interaction and stuck in their unloved childhood. Oh yeah...there's a whole army of those types out there.

Disgusting as this is, I am somewhat comforted from 3 things. Scumbag caught. She's seemingly alive. (Is this a report or a short note?) She wasn't family. (Been sick of too much in-family occurrences recently)

I would think an additional thing would have comforted you... that the police used proper detective work to identify and arrest the suspect. So often I see comments here on JT tearing-down the police department for ineptitude, but when they do things right you can hear a pin drop over "all" the acknowledgements.

What a coward! Picking on a young girl I hope she is okay.

Glad they got the scumbag, now lock him up! But where are all the people who rush to the defense of a would-be murderer if it's a woman, citing mental problems and saying she cannot be culpable for her actions?

We in the USA have attacks like this allot. I think it has to do with bad parenting skills and what children see on television.
