Police in Minamisoma, Fukushima Prefecture, said Friday they have arrested a 47-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder after he stabbed his 15-year-old daughter.

Police said they received a call at around 1 a.m. Friday from a woman reporting that her husband had stabbed their daughter and then tried to kill himself. NTV reported that police rushed to the scene and found the man and his daughter bleeding from stab wounds.

Both were taken to hospital where the girl underwent surgery for wounds to the stomach and is now in a stable condition, police said. The father apparently stabbed himself in the abdomen and is also in a stable condition, police said.

Police said the man and his wife lived with their two children and they are questioning the wife about a possible motive for her husband's actions.

I think the police would have an easier time getting a conviction if they arrested him for attempted murder rather than murder, since the daughter isn't dead yet.

@Disillusioned

I don't think MarkX is trying to make excuses... The people of Fukushima are still living a nightmare because apparently, it's more important to build an enormous stadium for the Olympics than to help the people who survived an tremendous earthquake followed by a horrendous tidal wave. (I'm sure those "natural disasters" are far more "traumatizing" than a "harness" on a toddler...)

Disillusioned, just look at where this took place. The amount of stress and pressure the poor people of Fukushima, and especially Minamisoma have been under is immense. Maybe he has no job, living in a temporary home, until we get more information, we should not be so quick to judge!

MarkX - So, are you trying to make excuses and justify someone attempting to murder their 15 year old daughter? Really? There is no excuse or justification for trying to kill one of your own kids. That is just insane!

In the 70' and 80" I traveled all corners of Japan and no stories like this existed.

What could make a person do such a thing? In any case, it's sad that the person responsible for her health, safety, and happiness tried to take it all from her.

Mostly likely this is a money issue the teenage girl probably wanted money and spent money the family didn't have and the dad just went postal. Probably he has. i job and the family lost everything but kids don't see things the same way as adults.

I think it would be interesting to know if this was disaster stress related. This does not excuse or condom but canbe used to shine a light on the mental crisis that is mirroring the nuclear one.

The amount of stress and pressure the poor people of Fukushima

maryartemis, get out of here with that comment. I hate it when holier than though people believe that if only everybody found god, the world would be a paradise. How is that working in so many so called Christian countries?

I hope both recover and both get help. 15 years is a long time. People don't just snap! He did something terrible. But so far no one has died. Let's not be too quick to demonize him.

Did he love his daughter too much???

.Looks like JT corrected the article.

I don't like hearing the "stress-related" excuses coming from people. I am happy the girl lived, not just for herself, but to be a catalyst and reminder to her father.

Oh, come on! Seriously? This is happening every second day! The safety country? Yeah, until you get home!
