A man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of stabbing his younger brother who had begun a relationship with his ex-wife in Hirakata, Osaka Prefecture, police said Thursday.

Police quoted the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Takashi Kawata, as saying, "I got so upset when I saw him with my ex-wife."

According to reports, at just before 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Kawata went to the apartment shared by his 20-year-old ex-wife and her older sister, and stabbed his younger brother in the back. He then called 110 and reported the incident, turning himself in.

The brother sustained serious injuries but is in a stable condition, police said.

But what is it with the Japanese and knives?

Simple - firearms are tightly controlled and the average person here doesn't have access to anything deadlier than a knife.

Captain Obvious here. To be fair most posts are made without much thought. The fact is, it probably wasn't a coincidence that his brother got together with his ex-wife. He knew her while they were married. This is actually the equivalent of one of your lifelong friends getting together with your ex wife.

It's a world away from someone you "know" getting together with your wife by coincidence.

Hmmm... I hope most of the last 15 posts were made tongue-in-cheek.

An ex who would attack anyone for having a relationship with his/her ex has property issues: They feel the ex is THEIR PROPERTY and anyone who would mess with THEIR PROPERTY must be made to feel pain. Psychotic attitudes like that are probably the reason the divorce happened in the first place.

haha wow love the comments on this one. he should of never let a woman get between him and his brother. and if there is anyone to stab it should of been her, right in the face ha

Most of us can relate emotionally to this article on some level.. many comments say that the younger brother 'had it coming'. Where the higher thinking comes in is realizing that not only was the younger brother at fault, but the woman as well for participating, and the older brother for losing his self-control and committing the stabbing.. nobody seems innocent in this case.

Can't say the younger brother didn't have this coming - what he did was a dog act.

Need to rephrase as my last post got removed.

Not surprising as humans are not as monogamous(sic) as social rules, etc want us to believe.

It is a stuggle between social structure vs what nature designed us to be.

I am not all surprised by this story and its outcome. All about removing competition for off-springs.

And I agree they let the "small" brain dictate their actions, again that is nature.

This is more an example of the psyche of the average Nihonjin than any lack of willingness to embrace divorce as a hobby or 3somes, 4somes, ad nauseam. Such people who willingly bounce from partner to partner and bed to bed truly missed the whole point and design of marriage. And those who let themselves 'fall for' their former sister-in-law, are dishonoring not only themselves, but the family as well. Honor is a concept that is sunk very very deep in the average Nihonjin.. it IS taught, rather than whoredom. Every person has a brain with many parts but the 2 largest divisions are between the cerebral higher brain where we do our considering, and the lower medulla where the instinct and sex drive resides.. we ALL have urges of lust, passion, infatuation, but MOST of us allow the higher reasoning part of us consider the consequences BEFORE we dive into bed with the nearest willing creature of interest. Every thing in the higher part of the brain is screaming about how wrong and dishonorable this whole situation is. All of the people involved are guilty of letting the wrong part of themselves do the thinking.

Um...Why does he care if they divorced! Obviousley the marriage wasnt meant to be! If she hooks up with the brother he should have let them be happy!

Love triangles are less complicated than love rectangles.

If an ex counts as part of a love triange, then I have been involved in several, as well as love squares, pentagons, hexagons... Erm, no, an ex does not count as part of love trial unless they are still seeing eachother and I don't think that was the case.

We don't get to choose who we fall for, and we sure don't get the right to stab anyone for who others fell for. What comes around goes around and if you get all judgemental over who chooses to be with who, your turn to be judged will surely come.

This sort of thing should be taught in schools so that people can overcome their ridiculous irrationality with logical sense. Instead of being angry, he should probably be glad to be rid of her. If she is more keen on the brother that marriage would not have been much fun for him I imagine. So he should be happy it ended and wish them the best. He was free to find someone more suited to him, but now he will be locked up. Should not have listened to the inner chimpanzee on this one pal.

“I got so upset when I saw him with my ex-wife.”

What were they doing together? Playing Dominos?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Hell I wouldn't have cared!

If I were him I would have told my younger brother that if he wanted to settle for my leftovers then fine but he could probably find better.

But what is it with the Japanese and knives?

My ex-wife (never laid a finger on her) put a knife in me twice once because she thought that I had found out she was cheating and that I was the one that told her lover she was married with 2 children, and then again when I canceled the credit card after she left the kids and I.

It seems that every time you read a story like this a knife is involved .

It must be very painful to be stabbed in the love triangle - especially with an ex-wife.

I know very well that love can be.. if not blind.. at least willing to put blinders on.. but nobody prepares you for the stupidity or the cruelty that some people bring with them into a relationship. She was so so wrong to get involved with the brother of her ex-husband.. also known as her former brother-in-law. 1 relationship already ruined.. and now the kinship of the brothers possibly destroyed all because of the selfishness of a woman who wanted without thought of the consequences and a brother who traded family honor for a chance to be with his brothers ex-wife.

I can't believe you guys are blaming the woman when she was obviously married to a violent psychopath.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'm not condoning this guys actions or outcome but what was the stupid woman thinking?! Why would you do that? Just to PO your ex-husband?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Wow... a 20 year old ex and the guy is only 24 himself. Sounds like it was a marriage meant to be. The brother deserved a good shot in the locker for doing what he did, but not a stabbing. At least we're hearing about a classic cause of such anger and explosion, rather than the usual, "He took the remote control," or, "he was complaining about my life-style", and that the (stabbing) victim will be okay. It was also good that the man arrested realized what he did and called police soon after to report the incident.

I'd be interested in knowing how things play out after this.

Make love not war! Kawata should have just gone after his ex-wife's sister...

I kind of understand getting super pissed about this... instead of stabbing my brother I probably would have told him that the ex was riddled with STDs... if that didn't work I would have knocked his block off! Really though, violence isn't the best kind of revenge now, is it?

All of them are a bunch of tools for all the right reasons and all of them deserve each other.

20 year old EX wife....wow must not of lasted long...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

At least this guy had a reason for stabbing someone that isn't completely crazy.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Manipulative woman!? Stupid younger brother!? They're divorced, and HE stabbed his own brother in the back! Sounds like she realized her earlier mistake and picked the better brother.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Wow - i used to live here too.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Brother shouldn't have gone there. Ruined family over a slice of pie.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I can't blame the dude here. I probably woudl have gone ape s*it too

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Why did he go to his ex-wife's apartment?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yes. She must be really happy now. What were they thinking? Hope she was hot.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Stupid younger brother was asking for it, but yeah, I agree. I good slug should've been the answer. BTW, I've seen some serious punches being thrown. I think it was at Ueno station at 6:30 am a few years back. The smaller dude was beating up on the bigger one.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

A classic boxing match would have sufficed.... however I have never seen a proper punch thrown in 13 years here.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

What a manipulative woman. I wonder if she is satisfied now.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

OSAKA!!! Yeah rip it up!!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

painful, seeing your own probably living it up with your ex wife, i can understand where he's coming from, but trying to kill the guy wasn't the answer
