Police in Izumo, Shimane Prefecture, have arrested a 39-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder after he stabbed his 45-year-old wife with an ice pick on Sunday, which was her birthday.
According to police, Yasuhiro Ishihara, a temp worker, and his wife were in a car in a parking lot in Hikawa, Izumo City, at around 7:40 a.m. on Sunday. Fuji TV reported that Ishihara stabbed his wife multiple times in the face and neck with an ice pick. He then called 119 and said he had stabbed his wife.
The woman sustained many wounds but was in a stable condition in hospital, police said Monday.
Police quoted Ishihara as saying he did not intend to murder his wife.
Local media reported that police had been to the couple's home before to sort out trouble between the two.

Japan IS safe, until you go home

Here's today's family murder (attempted). I'm starting to understand why so many businesspersons don't like to go home. It's a dangerous place! They are much safer at the office or an izakaya.

Just a little birthday acupuncture? What the hell?

A birthday card or a box of chocolate is much nicer than a ice pick

So it was a slip of the ice pick? Bloody psycho

Wait, where have I heard something like that again? Oh right, the woman that hit her sleeping husband with a metal bat and stabbed him with a knife.
What is it with all those people trying to kill their partners and then claiming that they didn't? They would probably shoot their partner in the head if they had guns and still claim that they had no intention to kill them...

well. in every country it's like that

Over the years, I've read of various "ice pick" murders, from Trotsky to this poor woman. And finally now I realize I don't know what an ice pick is. I have in mind the mountaineering instrument, and I think Trotsky was killed with one of those. But it seems that's called an ice axe in the USA (or ice ax?), and an ice pick is a long thin thing for chipping ice. So what was it in this case? As a mountaineering ice pick is probably not a normal household tool, I'm going for the chipper thing. Does anyone know?

Yeah they knew about it, ...but as usual in jp they may wait for the circuit to short out, 'and then" arrive to skillfully document the information.

Can some one help me out here? why would he have an ice pick in the car? wouldn't this be at home in a draw or cupboard? why would you have one in your car, is this normal in Japan? my thought are if it is normal an object that you use at home, he must have thought about taking it along with him to commit this evil act, thus going with the intention, that could be classed as premeditated and so it could be murder, its not like having an object that is carried in a car all of the time, like a CD or an umbrella. does anyone else carry an ice pick around with them on a daily basis?
